Our BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning with Rehabilitation degree allows you to focus on the areas that really interest you, gain fitness industry qualifications, and obtain valuable work experience on an optional placement year.

Based in our specialist, accredited labs in the Cambridge Centre for Sport and Exercise Science, you’ll learn how to help people develop their speed, agility, endurance and strength – whether they’re professional athletes training for elite competitions or local clients seeking to improve their physical activity levels. With different equipment at your disposal, you can track, monitor, correct and capture different data on performers to support your learning and development towards your career goal.

You’ll have opportunities to specialise in biomechanics or exercise physiology from Year 2, and to conduct your own research or take a work placement in Year 3.

Supported by our highly-experienced strength and conditioning specialists, sports therapists, coaches, health and exercise professionals and world-leading researchers, you’ll learn how to rehabilitate, recondition, and maximise the potential of sportspeople safely and ethically. There’s the chance to hear from world-leading guest speakers too, through our Excellence in Sports seminars.

ARU is the place to be for studying Computer Games Technology. The East of England has 135 active games companies, with Cambridge home to developers including Jagex, Frontier Developments and Ninja Theory, who are currently building a new base on Newmarket Road complete with a gaming pub.

Based in Compass House, our gaming and technology hub, you'll enjoy having the latest technology at your fingertips and collaborating with other students on innovative projects.

On this course you’ll study the practical and theoretical aspects of modern politics and international relations, and thereby gain insights into our past, present and future on both a local and global scale. You’ll examine relevant political debates from a historical, philosophical and sociological perspective. In doing so, we‘ll go beyond the ‘high politics’ of traditional theories and the workings of parliaments. Instead, you’ll be able to develop your own specialisms in areas such as global diplomacy, international relations, and international issues like climate change; protest movements like Black Lives Matter; the devolution of power away from central government; the politics of the new media; the politics of gender, and the place of race in modern society.

Our specialist modules such as Race, Racism and Cultural Identity, Wrestling with Trump: the WWE and Modern Political Culture, and Politics and Social Media will allow you to engage with contemporary issues, developing a deeper understanding of modern politics.

As a BA (Hons) Politics student at ARU, you’ll learn from expert tutors including historians, sociologists, criminologists and political scientists.

Together, we’ll explore the latest theories, debates and research; examine domestic, European and international themes in politics, and consider the practical implications of political decision-making and policies.

The first course of its kind, MA Children’s Book Illustration was established at Cambridge School of Art in 2001 and is led by Course Leader Shelley Jackson. Over the last twenty years, we’ve seen hundreds of graduates publish children’s books around the world, many to critical acclaim. Students and graduates often dominate national and international awards, too.

On each module of this Masters course you’ll propose and develop a project guided by our leading team of tutors—all practitioners with a wide range of specialisms. Teaching is primarily through one-to-one and group tutorials, seminars, workshops and studio critiques, in which you will learn about relevant theories, contexts and practices. As the course progresses, you are increasingly encouraged and expected to develop your work and research independently so that you’re prepared to enter the role of a freelance illustrator upon graduation.

You’ll work in our dedicated illustration studios overlooking the Ruskin Gallery, with access to a fully equipped printmaking studio, other specialist facilities, and open access life-drawing sessions. With studio culture at the heart of the MA, you'll share and discuss your work with other students, attend course-wide lectures that will inform your studio practice, and participate in community activities.

Our Animal Behaviour BSc (Hons) course is the longest-established animal behaviour course in the UK and is recognised by the Society of Biology.

As part of your degree, you will visit a number of locations and organisations to observe and undertake animal handling and training and to learn about and practise advanced behavioural data collection in the field and within captive environments.Fast becoming a world centre for wildlife conservation, Cambridge is home to Fauna and Flora International, Birdlife International and the World Conservation Monitoring Centre. Immerse yourself in our specialist printmaking workshop at Cambridge School of Art, where our facilities enable you to engage with the histories of information and technological media, fine-art, craft and mechanical reproduction, as well as new digital and mixed-media approaches to ideas of reproducibility and the mediated image, within the expanded field of print.

On our MA Printmaking course, you will explore and embrace new ways of thinking and making within a fine-art, multi-disciplinary, experimental andcritically informed environment, supported by experienced print and fine art practitioners.By recognising its traditions and also adopting a forward-thinking approach to what printmaking can be in the 21st century and beyond, you will be encouraged to take risks, to challenge and question existing conventions of print, and to consider its critical and contemporary contexts.

This Masters degree is an ideal course for print-based artists looking to extend their practice and for those less experienced to creatively explore a more print-specific language and approach to art practice.

Teaching is primarily through one-to-one and group tutorials, seminars, workshops and studio critiques, in which you will learn about recent theories, contexts and practices. With access to the print and fine art studios, you are also encouraged and expected to develop your work and research independently.

Technical demonstrations and refresher sessions are offered in both traditional and emerging processes, including relief and intaglio printing, screenprint, plate lithography, photo-based and digital media. You are encouraged to experiment with these in your creative work, supported by staff who are experienced artists working across disciplines.

As an MA Printmaking student, you will benefit from links we have with external arts organisations, such as Curwen Print Study, galleries and exhibition spaces, both in Cambridge and further afield. London is only a short train journey away, and our connections with the MA Printmaking course at Camberwell College of Art will give you opportunities for critical exchange and to network with fellow MA students. We also encourage you to visit relevant exhibitions and events and to submit work to open exhibitions and prestigious competitions and prizes. In 2021/2022, we will be offering a new Printmaking Bursary across CSA for students working in print, supported by Curwen Print Study.

Learn both film theory and film-making practice by studying a full-time BA (Hons) Film degree at ARU.

As a student at ARU, you’ll discover the history of global cinema from the avant-garde to Hollywood blockbusters. As well as learning the fundamental theories of film and how it reflects and affects society, you’ll explore the language of film from the perspective of a filmmaker and start to think critically about your creative work.

This will be key in the practical side of the course: making your own explorative short films in video, animation or 16mm format. You’ll be trained in all aspects of the craft, including camera operation, sound recording and editing.

As the course progresses, our optional modules allow you to further explore your interests or specialise for a particular career, with subjects such as screenwriting and film journalism.
