ARU is the place to be for studying Computer Games Technology. The East of England has 135 active games companies, with Cambridge home to developers including Jagex, Frontier Developments and Ninja Theory, who are currently building a new base on Newmarket Road complete with a gaming pub.

Based in Compass House, our gaming and technology hub, you'll enjoy having the latest technology at your fingertips and collaborating with other students on innovative projects.

You’ll get the chance to improve your prospects with live briefs and guest speakers from tech giants like Sony, Jagex and Frontier. There’s even the opportunity to take part in events with industry reps, too.

During your time at ARU, you’ll also have the opportunity to get a head-start in the computer gaming industry and in recent times, ARM, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Frontier and Just Flight have all offered internships and work opportunities to ARU students. There are lots of placement opportunities with an optional placement year to develop your practical experience.

You’ll develop your skills in information design, visual identities, packaging and promotion, cross-platform advertising and design for the web. You’ll work in our dedicated Graphic Design Mac suites and base room, bouncing ideas off other student designers and getting guidance and support from the course team, all of whom have worked in the design industry for clients including Tesco, Lotus Cars, Manchester United, Saatchi & Saatchi, The NUS, and the UK Film Council.

You’ll also work closely with a number of graphic design studios, including?Cambridge University Press, CPL,?The District, and Onespacemedia, who will set your live briefs as well as providing lectures and one-to-one feedback, ending with a final review that can often lead to work placements, internships and long-term professional relationships.

You’ll also go on field trips, enter design competitions including Penguin Random House Student Design Awards, YCN?or?D&AD? and can choose to join our annual visit to Amsterdam. There’s even the chance to study abroad for a semester, with funding on offer to help cover the costs.

With its vibrant studio culture, our Graphic Design degree will encourage you to push boundaries and challenge existing thinking by developing innovative design solutions as well as a keen understanding of professional practice. You’ll experiment with print-based design as well as digital commercial practices including site-specific, interactive, motion graphics, mobile media, app design (UX/UI), web and multimedia work.

As a Musical Theatre student at ARU, you’ll train with industry professionals, take part in showcases and productions from Year 1, and gain real-world experience.

On our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree you will gain skills unique to musical theatre training, specifically actor-musicianship, physical theatre, dance and choreography.

Your tutors will include established musical directors, artistic directors and choreographers – and you’ll learn in professional facilities including our Mumford Theatre.

With a buzzing creative scene, and opportunities to perform in renowned local venues, Cambridge is the perfect place to study Musical Theatre. You can even choose to study abroad for a semester, with funding on offer to help cover the cost.

In your first year as a Musical Theatre student we’ll work on a small-scale musical, before tackling a full-scale book musical as your second year begins.

Next comes an Industry Project on an intense four- to five-week schedule, led by a professional director and our resident Musical Director. This gives you a real-world, authentic experience of industry practice in musical theatre production. We’ll also support you to learn through work-based projects, internships or placements. You can even take an optional placement year.

Our Musical Theatre degree features four productions and two skills showcases. You’ll learn advanced audition techniques and produce your own showreel. Alongside this, you’ll gain confidence, emotional resilience, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Combine film theory and media theory with practical skills including film-making, multimedia content creation and digital publishing.

Our BA (Hons) Film and Media degree will introduce you to the key issues debates in film and media from feminism and postmodernism to the impact of film, TV, music and the media on society, including politics, youth culture and technology..

You’ll also create your own short films in video, animation or 16mm format. Working in our professional TV and film studios, you’ll be trained in all aspects of the craft, including camera operation, sound recording and editing. You’ll also be able to focus on particular areas of interest, including digital publishing (building apps), radio production, screenwriting and computer coding.

As a Film and Media student at ARU, you’ll learn the language of film from the perspective of a film-maker, and use this to inform your own short films. You’ll also explore current issues around our data-driven society through modules in digital media theory and law, culture and technology and use this knowledge in the production of apps, podcasts or online platforms.

You’ll also have the opportunity to carry out a work placement, or produce a commissioned product, in the area of your choice as you prepare for a career in film- and media-related roles, including production, post-production, digital content creation and journalism. You can also take an optional placement year.

In your final year, your moving image work is screened at the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse. The best films will also be selected for showing at the annual Cambridge Film Festival.

You’ll work closely with students from across the Cambridge School of Art, including the postgraduate students from Human-Centred Design and Interior Design Innovation on an industry-led collaborative project and deliver public-facing events. As an Art, Health, and Wellbeing student in Cambridge, you’ll be able to work in a start-up environment and a relaxed culture in which creativity and creative problem solving are valued and build strong relationships and freely exchange thoughts and ideas. Most importantly, you’ll receive support and guidance from our experienced staff who, as well as running their own studio practice, have worked with companies such as the NHS, Prepared International, Nebama Mind, World Health Organisation, and World Humanitarian Forum. Talks from visiting lecturers and live briefs from industry are built into our course. They focus on areas including participatory research and practice, digital health, social design and sustainability, interactive storytelling and digital technologies, care systems and future health. We'll encourage you to build your profile by entering national and international competitions, as well as taking part in our own competitions such as the Sustainability Art Prize. You'll have the chance to develop a business plan and pitch for start-up funding through our annual competition, The Big Pitch, and you can get involved in our research conferences and creative events.

Expand your knowledge in all areas of forensic science, from gathering evidence at the crime scene itself, right through to the courtroom. Develop your skills and knowledge on our accredited course, as you collect and analyse evidence, equipping you to become a confident and effective practitioner.

In-keeping with its industry-focus our Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences accredited course is taught by experienced forensics practitioners. We’ll immerse you in a practical environment that closely emulates a real forensics laboratory. The analytical skills and expertise you gain apply equally well in the broader scientific and technological fields as they do in forensics.

Our course combines practical skills with high-level theoretical knowledge of the wide range of forensic techniques you need to apply at all stages of an investigation.
