Our MSc Project Management takes a generic approach to project management. It provides the opportunity for you to develop a comprehensive understanding of the role of the project manager and a broad understanding of the management processes and practices involved in the development and operation of projects from inception to completion.

You will develop the knowledge and applicational skills required to manage projects in a wide range of organisations that use projects.

Uniquely our MSc Project Management recognises that management is an individual and personal activity; every manager manages in their own way. The construction industry is one of the most dynamic, diverse and significant in the world. We live, work and play in the built environment, and our Construction Management degree course will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the technology and management involved in its creation.

We'll focus on the key stages and process of planning, construction and maintenance. These range from building design and technology, to resource management and project administration. You’ll learn about regulatory, legal and economic frameworks, the latest thinking in sustainability, and developments in digital technologies and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Practical experience comes in the form of a week-long residential visit where you’ll take part in the construction of an iconic building or structure – learning management and construction trade skills along the way.

The development of professional skills is embedded throughout the course, linked to authentic, practical assessment in many modules. You’ll also develop your communication, numerical, IT, teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills.

With an eye on your future, we encourage you to attend regular CPD events to start to build your own industry networks. The course offers opportunities to visit a variety of construction sites, listen to guest lectures from industry experts, and get the most up-to-date industry information as well as being taught by staff with both extensive industrial and professional experience alongside an academic and research pedigree.

You’ll get hands-on experience in our crime scene rooms and mock court rooms, as well as through practical role-playing, case study scenarios, workshops and study trips.

All our BSc (Hons) Professional Policing students follow the College of Policing’s National Policing Curriculum, learning to think like a police officer and developing problem-solving, communication, negotiation, leadership and research skills. These skills will help you rise up the ranks when you join the force, potentially doubling your salary in just seven years.

Policing is growing as a profession. The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners and National Police Chiefs Council recently set out a ten-year plan for transforming the police, in order to deal with rapidly changing demands in England and Wales.

As of 2020, taking a pre-join degree will be one of three possible routes into policing as a Police Constable. This route, licensed by the College of Policing, will allow you to follow their curriculum, as well as gaining a wider understanding of law enforcement and the justice sector.

You’ll learn how to tackle the latest challenges facing the police force, work with our Policing Institute for the Eastern Region on cutting-edge research projects, and attend guest lectures by serving officers. Our team of expert lecturers will guide and support you throughout the course.

In Essex alone, the number of police officers grew by 5% from March 2017 to March 2018. Our course will help you stand out as a potential police constable, so you can become fully qualified, and gain Independent Patrol Status, soon after you graduate.*

The future of the police will increasingly feature multi-agency collaboration, or ‘inter-operability’, driven by new forms of technology, evidence-based policing and innovation. Our course will prepare you for these developments, as well as training you to reflect critically and constructively on their implications.

On this course you’ll learn through practice, in our Early Childhood Resource and Research Room and through our optional placement and theoretical modules. Placements are optional and individually tailored to enable you to gain experience in a variety of different types of settings.

Whether you decide to go on placement or not, you’ll have access to additional volunteering and work experience as well as the choice to take part in further professional development training opportunities, enrichment trips, research groups and various early childhood and education events.

Throughout your studies you’ll be taught by experts in the field of early childhood, using a variety of teaching methods and interactive technology to promote learning, including group activities, class debates and discussion, lectures and seminar sessions, as well as independent learning and study expectations.

You’ll receive regular feedback and personal tutorial support throughout the course to develop both your academic and professional skills. You’ll also benefit from the research our lecturers are involved in through our Early Childhood Research Group.

Our architecture studios are exciting, creative places with industry-standard equipment. Here, our experts will deliver a learner-centred and research-led approach to architecture.

You’ll become skilled in developing design concepts, experimenting with different media, and representing your ideas through drawings, physical and digital models.

But you won’t be restricted to the studio. You’ll go on site visits so you can analyse the language and style of buildings, their construction, and see projects taking shape in real life. Together, we’ll explore building design, ‘buildability’ and sustainability.

There’s also an optional European field trip each year, to cities such as Lisbon, Venice, Rome and Vienna. It’s a great chance to explore how architecture contributes to shaping our urban life.

Your future career is important so you’ll learn about the construction business and project management. We have a network of visiting designers, artists, historians and theorists who deliver workshops, lectures and tutorials. You can also choose to take a placement as part of your BA (Hons) Architecture degree, and gain industry experience.

When you complete your degree course, you will have fulfilled the first part of the three-part process to become a registered architect in the UK.

On our BA (Hons) route, you'll study Level 4, 5 and 6 modules over three years in Chelmsford. You have the option to take a foundation (Level 3) course at ARU College in Cambridge for a year before starting the main part of the course.

So much of our everyday life is influenced by engineered products. Study your Mechanical Engineering MEng (Hons) degree at ARU and learn to design, develop, operate and manufacture products and parts in our specialist lab whether it is in the manufacturing, the design, or even the materials. Our four-year MEng Mechanical Engineering degree course has been newly reimagined, focusing on project based learning, allowing you to take your in-class theory and apply it in a hands-on project module that will run throughout the year.

Engineering is all about taking a product or system and looking at how it can be improved, whether it is in the manufacturing, the design, or even the materials.

On our four-year Mechanical Engineering course, you'll learn through a wide range of lab sessions. We'll explore manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics, and structural analysis so you can analyse, calculate, model, and experience your proposed concepts. As a part of your project-based learning you will work as part of a team, with students from the different areas of mechanical engineering. This Mechanical Engineering MEng course differs from the BEng as it has an increased emphasis on project work. You’ll also take an individual research module in Year 3 to boost your self-managed learning and research skills. Our course leads students through computer based advanced design, simulation and modelling practice in various topics including computational engineering, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and industrial management. You’ll benefit from using our workshop and laboratory facilities including CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centre, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, scanning electronic microscope, Instron bi-axial fatigue-testing machine, tensile-testing machine, material-preparation facilities, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal generating and testing facilities, wind tunnel, air compressors, steam engine and many more laboratory facilities used during course and in individual and group major projects.
