Our architecture studios are exciting, creative places with industry-standard equipment. Here, our experts will deliver a learner-centred and research-led approach to architecture.

You’ll become skilled in developing design concepts, experimenting with different media, and representing your ideas through drawings, physical and digital models.

But you won’t be restricted to the studio. You’ll go on site visits so you can analyse the language and style of buildings, their construction, and see projects taking shape in real life. Together, we’ll explore building design, ‘buildability’ and sustainability.

There’s also an optional European field trip each year, to cities such as Lisbon, Venice, Rome and Vienna. It’s a great chance to explore how architecture contributes to shaping our urban life.

Your future career is important so you’ll learn about the construction business and project management. We have a network of visiting designers, artists, historians and theorists who deliver workshops, lectures and tutorials. You can also choose to take a placement as part of your BA (Hons) Architecture degree, and gain industry experience.

We make sure your course is relevant to the real world, by helping you to engage ethically, politically, and sustainably with the changing landscape of the built environment, better preparing you for the world of work.

When you complete your degree course, you will have fulfilled the first part of the three-part process to become a registered architect in the UK.

On our BA (Hons) route, you'll study Level 4, 5 and 6 modules over three years in Chelmsford. You have the option to take a foundation (Level 3) course at ARU College in Cambridge for a year before starting the main part of the course.

Many of our students choose to study law because they’re motivated by the idea of helping people. All this practical experience is, of course, backed up by classroom teaching. Our lecturers combine academic modules with those that focus on areas of professional practice, such as human rights law.

As you progress through the LLB (Hons) Law course, you’ll have the chance to take optional modules and explore areas of law that are of particular interest to you.

Engineering is in everything and an engineer is continually looking at how to improve products and the world. It’s about taking a product or system seeing whether it can change to meet demand – whether that is in development, processing, design, or even the materials used.

Our new four-year MEng Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree course is about combining the mechanical with the electrical. It's been created with a focus on project-based learning, allowing you to take the theory you've learned in class and apply it in a hands-on project module that runs throughout Year 1.

You will study alongside other mechanical engineering students, specialising in mechatronics and robotics manufacturing in your final year and in certain modules throughout your course. You will focus on the electronic application of engineering – how this can blend with mechanical engineering to move technology forwards.

While studying our Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering degree course, you will learn through a wide range of lab sessions. We explore manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics, and structural analysis so you can analyse, calculate, model, and experience your proposed concepts. As a part of your project-based learning you work in a multidisciplinary team with students from different areas of mechanical engineering. These include CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centre, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, scanning electronic microscope, Instron bi-axial fatigue-testing machine, tensile-testing machine, material-preparation facilities, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal generating and testing facilities, wind tunnel, air compressors, steam engine and many more.

Based in Cambridge, Chelmsford or Peterborough (two-year accelerated degree) our course will prepare you to join postgraduate Initial Teacher Training.

Our Primary Education Studies course is designed for those looking for a career working with children aged 3-12 and their families. It’s also a great option if you already work in education but want to learn more about the subject or progress in your career.

We focus on education history, policy and the way children are taught today. You’ll graduate with a thorough understanding of classroom management, lesson planning, National Curriculum subjects, and the three Key Stages in primary education. We’ll also touch on special educational needs provision.

Throughout the course there’s a strong focus on the core subjects that all primary-aged pupils study: reading, writing, maths and science. You’ll become familiar with teaching approaches and how to make adjustments to suit learners of all abilities.

We offer our Primary Education Studies course as a three-year degree or an accelerated degree, which you’ll complete in two years.
