Our eight key modules are designed to give you a deep understanding of the role of a manager throughout the entire construction process, whether they're leading and managing teams or solving construction-related problems. From interviewing students about drug and alcohol addiction, to creating a campaign about exercise and nutrition in a poor area of the UK, to writing a report to inform a government about a rare disease in a developing country – the diverse nature of public health means that no two days are the same.

It’s a sector that’s brimming with career opportunities.

Public health covers three key areas:

• Health improvement: this includes work to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities by promoting health lifestyle changes. This can include helping people to quit smoking or improve their living conditions; promoting healthy eating, or tackling underlying issues such as poverty and reduced access to healthcare.
• Health protection: this area can cover the safety and quality of the environment, food and water, preventing the spread of communicable disease and managing outbreaks – such as pandemic flu – and addressing the health effects of climate change.
• Healthcare: public health professionals help to make sure that health and care services are fit-for-purpose and accessible to all sectors of the population.

By studying BSc (Hons) Public Health at ARU, you’ll gain practical skills and the confidence to work collaboratively in groups.

Back in the classroom you’ll gain the research and analytical skills to interpret data. Our Primary Education Studies course is designed for those looking for a career working with children aged 3-12 and their families. It’s also a great option if you already work in education but want to learn more about the subject or progress in your career.

We focus on education history, policy and the way children are taught today. You’ll graduate with a thorough understanding of classroom management, lesson planning, National Curriculum subjects, and the three Key Stages in primary education. We’ll also touch on special educational needs provision.

Throughout the course there’s a strong focus on the core subjects that all primary-aged pupils study: reading, writing, maths and science. You’ll become familiar with teaching approaches and how to make adjustments to suit learners of all abilities.

As a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying student at ARU, you’ll learn how to financially manage construction projects from initial concept, through to design, build and maintenance.

Quantity surveyors play a vital role in deciding whether construction projects are financially viable. And so, through studying our Quantity Surveying degree,, you’ll gain a vital understanding of issues such as value for money, health and safety and the environment – as well as exploring the wider context of the built environment.

Once you’ve graduated, you’ll be able to register with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and start working as a chartered quantity surveyor. You could also choose to develop a specialism or start a career in research with our wide range of full- and part-time postgraduate degrees.

You have the option to study this course as a four-year degree with foundation year. In your first year you'll study with our partner, ARU College, on our Cambridge campus. In Years 2-4 you'll study in Chelmsford or ARU Peterborough.
