What you'll learn

On this four year program, you will achieve a Bachelors's degree and a Masters's degree. If you choose to take a year in the industry the course length will be five years.

You will gain a grounding in the principles of design management in technology, manufacturing, and concept development, combining both theoretical and practical skills training alongside the relevant industrial experience. Plus, you’ll develop the skills necessary to stimulate design entrepreneurial activity, brought to life by our up-to-date and professionally focused curriculum.

Our program is designed to create graduates with a strong mathematical background oriented towards knowledge and technical skills in demand by the job market.

In your first and second years, you will build a solid foundation of mathematical knowledge by learning core mathematical topics, such as Algebra, Analysis, Calculus, Differential Equations, Geometry, and Probability, amongst others. In Probability and Statistics, you will be introduced to the elementary theory of probability and statistics and learn to apply that knowledge using Microsoft Excel to statistically analyze real-world data sets and draw relevant and practical conclusions.

This course, which combines electronic engineering and computer science knowledge and experience, will enable you to be skilled in digital electronics, a highly sought after skill set in the current employment market. 

What you’ll learn
You’ll gain a solid grounding in software engineering and computing systems, complemented by engineering expertise in digital electronics and telecommunications. To build a bridge between hardware and software specialists you’ll study computing and electronics with single honours students from the electronic engineering and computer science subject groups.? In the second and final year, you’ll be able to choose specialist options in preparation for your future career. These options include digital system design, telecommunications systems, optoelectronics and signal processing. Civil engineering?is the professional practice of designing and developing infrastructure projects, which includes planning, budgeting, surveying and construction management. Part of the civil engineering and infrastructure cluster here at Aston, this course examines the societal, economic and operational issues related to construction. There’s a high demand for graduates with these skills. With more than two million people currently employed in the construction sector across the UK, and the industry continuing to grow, this demand is increasing. What you’ll learn
The core subjects at the heart of the degree – structures, materials, geotechnics, transport, infrastructure, engineering and construction management – will equip you with key expertise and enhance your employability.

During the course you will study a wide range of subjects, beginning with the fundamentals of civil engineering, including construction materials, mechanics and mathematical skills.

You will spend a year in industry as part of the course before completing your studies in year four with a research project and a design project as well as the opportunity to specialise in either transport, infrastructure, engineering or construction management.
