Through studying Psychology at BGU you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the scientific nature of the subject and of its wider cultural and social impact. The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies is a three-year undergraduate programme which introduces students to aspects of education, health and social care, with a specific focus on children from 0 – 8 years of age.
The course offers graduates a range of employability opportunities with module content supporting students in developing a wide range of transferable skills, as well as providing a curriculum which enables students to develop their academic skills. Students who graduate from the programme will be awarded a full and relevant degree enhancing employability by enabling them to seek roles in early childhood settings as part of the adult: child ratio.

Drama at BGU is a forward-looking programme that looks beyond historic and established conventions by exploring what drama can be now and in the future. The programme is grounded in the academic elements of drama as well as practical performance making.The programme will equip you with analytical skills, enabling you to contribute to academic debates on drama, theatre and performance. You will gain valuable experience and skills, which will be nurtured through a variety of teaching methods including productions, lectures and seminars, theatre visits, and practical workshops, providing a thorough and an in-depth understanding of professional practice. You will develop your own skills in critical analysis and interpretation of play-texts from different playwrights while enhancing your research skills and advancing your knowledge and understanding of drama in general. The structure of the programme will enable you to combine theory with practice, identifying the link between the two. Through a combination of theoretical and practical explorations, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of creative practices and develop your own capacity as a contemporary practitioner and critical thinker.

A key feature of Education Studies is a focus on you as a developing practitioner. You will be encouraged to develop a strong personal ideology of education and will be supported in the development of secure employability skills through our work-based placements. A number of core modules each year incorporate placements in schools or other education-related settings and carefully structured placement tasks will ensure that you gain valuable first-hand practical experience.

Special Educational provision, tackling discrimination and adding to the understanding of how to meet the needs of different groups across society, is not only hugely relevant in today’s world but arguably also incredibly important. You’ll be encouraged to increase your understanding of competing for political agendas in relation to inclusion, and you’ll study hidden inequalities in depth. The areas you study will be dynamic, with current, contemporary themes which change and develop from year to year. Throughout the course, you will complete a number of modules which take a more thematic approach where you’ll explore critical issues such as Inclusion, Equality and Entitlement. During your final year, you will explore wider issues of inclusion including policy and leadership.

The SENDI programme is carefully structured to guide you as you develop as an individual student, from broad themes in your first year to more specialised topics in later years. You will have the opportunity to examine legislation and contrast it with the reality of what is provided in educational settings, developing skills in critical analysis of current issues, and looking at how those issues impact on the individual and their learning environment. In addition, you’ll become equipped with the confidence and competence to make a difference to your own life and the lives of others.

Here at BGU, you won’t just study history through documents, you’ll learn through placements, site visits and the archives and museums that the ancient city of Lincoln has to offer. Discover the ages in a dynamic and exciting way; through words, images, buildings and artefacts.

Throughout the course, you will discover a number of the modules which take a more thematic approach where you may explore critical issues such as community and public history, local history or war and commemoration. During your final year, with advice and guidance from academic staff, you will also choose to focus on a topic, period or theme that is of particular interest to you. This allows you to tailor the course to your own interests and particular career aspirations.

Our counselling course will offer you the opportunity to learn about a wealth of topics, such as self awareness, diversity, mental wellbeing and supporting clients facing a range of difficulties and issues. You are likely to explore different Counselling approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness.
This course offers transferable skills, particularly relevant when working closely with other people in a helping profession such as caring, nursing, social work and probation, as well as in human resources, management or mediation and advocacy positions.

During the study of Sport at BGU you will gain understanding in the complexities of this subject, including; the development of sport; how performance can be enhanced and how it can be managed and led. This course is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of the sport, physical education, learning and teaching and education.
You’ll be researching and interrogating recent issues and looking at conflicting ideas and opinions, as well as being encouraged to hone your coaching, leadership and teaching skills through practical exercises, field trips, laboratory work and placement opportunities. In Sport, we think you should experience intellectual excitement and enjoyment, knowledge and practical skills relevant to your chosen career and as much freedom as possible to explore your personal interests.
