The BA (Hons) Business programme provides a thorough grounding in a range of business subjects including marketing, finance, management, entrepreneurship and leadership, the chance to work with a wide variety of organisations through our links with industry and the opportunity to develop projects and expertise in areas that you are interested in.

This programme equips you for both employment and self-employment and gives you the confidence to succeed in the business world. Modules are contemporary in nature and tackle key issues facing organisations and society head on.

Modules are taught and assessed using a variety of active learning techniques where you are encouraged to take charge of your own learning through engaging with academic knowledge and research, tutors, external organisations, and your peers. Your assignments are developed in conjunction with industry experts and throughout the duration of your programme you will be given live briefs to fulfil for your clients. You will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement and an international field trip (that you will be required to self-fund) in the second year of the programme.

This programme is best suited to individuals with a ‘can do’ attitude who want to go the extra mile to develop their business and professional skills throughout the duration of their studies.

At BGU you will study an exciting range of writers, texts and topics. You will be able to study works in their historical and genre contexts, explore literary concepts and themes (identity, memory, gender and adolescence), make intertextual and creative connections (myth, adaptation, film, creative writing) and develop your critical independence and career prospects with extended research and work-based projects (English@Work, research project). Throughout your studies you can follow your own interests through optional modules, and choose your own focal points and textual examples for assessment tasks.As an English student at BGU, your engagement with literature won’t stop at the seminar door. The English team are all research-active lecturers who are passionate about the study of literature and its positive impact on the individual and wider society. We actively support a range of organised events and visits to enable a wider participation with literary culture, including visiting speakers, a research seminar series, subsidised film and theatre trips, workshops and celebrations, poetry readings and literary awards.

Psychology has a science base, yet includes a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, statistics and computer-based skills. As well as classic psychological theories and research, you’ll be debating social issues, studying specific mental processes, such as memory, language and attention, as well as broader issues and theories – both historical and contemporary. As well as applying psychological knowledge to a range of subjects, you will develop your skills in problem-solving, data analysis, predict and reasoning, with a focus on real-world application.

Throughout the study of Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion (SENDI) you will find out about different categories of need including; cognition & learning, social, emotional and mental health, sensory and communication needs. Modules cover the broad spectrum to focus upon specific and more complex needs. You will challenge your own beliefs and values, as well as those of others, and become an advocate for change.
You’ll be encouraged to increase your understanding of competing for political agendas in relation to inclusion, and you’ll study hidden inequalities in depth. The areas you study will be dynamic, with current, contemporary themes which change and develop from year to year. Throughout the course, you will complete a number of modules which take a more thematic approach where you’ll explore critical issues such as Inclusion, Equality and Entitlement. During your final year, you will explore wider issues of inclusion including policy and leadership.

Our counselling course will offer you the opportunity to learn about a wealth of topics, such as self awareness, diversity, mental wellbeing and supporting clients facing a range of difficulties and issues. You are likely to explore different Counselling approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness.
Students will study and learn practical counselling skills in integrated counselling, including elements of humanistic, psychodynamic and Cognitive behavioural approaches. Course themes explore a range of counselling modalities, from more traditional talking therapies through to contemporary wellbeing and creative approaches. Students will engage in a diverse range of assessments, including written coursework, projects and practical counselling skills to demonstrate their learning.

Throughout the course, you will have the chance to study material from prehistory through to Roman and Medieval times as well as exploring contemporary archaeology. In addition to studying archaeological evidence from these different periods, you will also explore key ideas and current issues, such as archaeological method and theory, landscape archaeology and community archaeology.

History is essential in understanding what the past means for us in the twenty-first century. Here at BGU, you won’t just study history through documents, you’ll learn through placements, site visits and the archives and museums that the ancient city of Lincoln has to offer. Discover the ages in a dynamic and exciting way; through words, images, buildings and artefacts.

Throughout the course, you will discover a number of the modules which take a more thematic approach where you may explore critical issues such as community and public history, local history or war and commemoration. During your final year, with advice and guidance from academic staff, you will also choose to focus on a topic, period or theme that is of particular interest to you. A number of core modules each year incorporate placements in schools or other education-related settings and carefully structured placement tasks will ensure that you gain valuable first-hand practical experience.

The three-year Primary Education course at BGU is designed to allow you to study a vocational honours degree in Primary Education leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It provides an integrated academic and professional preparation for teaching. If you believe that you can inspire children to learn and are passionate about the role that primary education plays in shaping a child’s future, then this is the course for you.

Our course team will work with you to enhance and develop your understanding of learning and teaching. You’ll spend a significant amount of time in school throughout the course, and will be encouraged and supported as you learn to develop effective ways to teach the whole primary curriculum. You will explore the theory and practice of primary education and develop a personal philosophy that will underpin all that you seek to achieve with the children you teach.

Initially, you’ll work with small groups of children, progressing on to working with a whole class, leading up to assessed school placements in your second and third years where you’ll take full responsibility for whole classes of children.

Sport, Coaching & Physical Education is an exciting, multi-disciplinary degree which equips you with the vocational, professional and academic knowledge and experience required for those with aspirations for a successful career in coaching, teaching, sports development or the health and fitness industry. This degree requires your practical involvement in sport and physical activity in order to systematically challenge and critique the theoretical aspects of Sport, Coaching & Physical Education.

Sports coaches and physical educators have the opportunity to impact significantly on the lives of those they are supporting and this requires thoughtful, innovative and informed practitioners which this degree aims to develop.

A key feature of the course is its integration of applied professional practice with theory. You will examine academic subjects and develop your critical skills in a variety of practical settings. This may include working alongside professional coaches in elite settings or examining issues linked to sport and physical education provision in schools. Our links with local sports partnerships, governing bodies, professional sports clubs and Sports Coach UK provide exciting work placement and career opportunities. While studying History at BGU, you will explore a range of fascinating topics spanning a number of historical eras, in a variety of local, national and global contexts; from pirates in the early modern Atlantic World to civil rights campaigners in the 1960s. The undergraduate degree provide you with a deep and reflective knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues in education, directly related to everyday practice. This undergraduate programme offers each music student a course that develops musical knowledge, understanding, creativity and the rigorous musicianship skills needed to be an effective and employable musician in the twenty-first century. You will be encouraged to develop your musicianship in a practical and theoretical way, giving you an excellent preparation for a range of musical careers and a springboard to further study.

Through a supportive learning environment, you will be encouraged to develop your musicianship in a holistic way in both practical and theoretical modules as well as applying your skills in the broader musical life of the university and within the community.
