Overview

Through studying Psychology at BGU you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the scientific nature of the subject and of its wider cultural and social impact. You will develop your understanding of psychology and its theories of the mind, emotions and behaviour and become familiar with how these theories are applied in our lives, communities and societies.Psychology has a science base, yet includes a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, statistics and computer-based skills. As well as classic psychological theories and research, you’ll be debating social issues, studying specific mental processes, such as memory, language and attention, as well as broader issues and theories – both historical and contemporary. As well as applying psychological knowledge to a range of subjects, you will develop your skills in problem-solving, data analysis, predict and reasoning, with a focus on real-world application.

Our dynamic Sports courses are designed around three specific areas - Physical Education, Sports Coaching and Sports Development. As your course progresses you can choose to specialise in a particular area, giving you as much freedom as possible to explore your personal interests.

During the study of Sport at BGU you will gain understanding in the complexities of this subject, including; the development of sport; how performance can be enhanced and how it can be managed and led. This Masters course is designed to develop your in-depth knowledge, understanding and skills in relation to current and changing SEND practice. The modules will provide you with opportunities to investigate different social and educational contexts, demonstrating the acquisition of advanced knowledge and understanding of key issues relating to SEND. This will include a critical awareness and interpretation of theory and practice, which will inform and develop effective SEND practice. Building upon prior knowledge and /or experience, you will explore multiple perspectives on key issues through structured learning, independent study and research.

Whilst developing a broad understanding of diverse practice, you will gain confidence in applying learning, informed by leading research and practice in SEND. Essential to completing the MA is the acquisition of an advanced understanding of research-informed practice. You will investigate different methods of enquiry, working individually or collectively, to solve situational challenges. Successful problem-based learning will require you to develop intellectual and transferrable skills and apply them in a meaningful way. You will also be encouraged to explore different approaches to meeting SEND following demonstration and discussion of alternative interventions. The aim is to promote reflective practice leading to confidence in creating positive change in provision.

The course promotes independent study, including identification of research techniques and research methods engaging you fully with SEND research and practice. It will help you to develop a conceptual understanding that enables you to analyse, debate, appreciate ambiguity and uncertainty yet be competent in evaluating and defending viewpoints, improving your research literacy and research skills. Ultimately, you will be able to solve problems through applying alternative methods and techniques in shaping and changing practice for children and young people with SEND.

Although questions of technological advances are important, the study of military history is more than just learning about weapons and battles. Our Military History programme is designed to offer you a course of critical historical study with a significant focus on the scope and chronological development, experience and impact of conflict from the medieval period through to the present day and across a breadth of geographical situations. It aims to equip you with a range of critical and analytical skills through a wide-ranging study of the incidence, formation and operation of military institutions and organizational structures in naval, land-based, airborne and civilian contexts.

The course will engage you in understanding the wider social, ethical and political context of war. You will engage in real historical research, working side-by-side with members of academic staff and also during your final year when working on your personal research-based dissertation. You will gain skills that will help you to research and analyse sources and data, and to construct and defend thought provoking arguments.

Throughout the study of Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion (SENDI) you will find out about different categories of need including; cognition & learning, social, emotional and mental health, sensory and communication needs. Modules cover the broad spectrum to focus upon specific and more complex needs.
