Through studying Psychology at BGU you’ll gain an in-depth understanding of the scientific nature of the subject and of its wider cultural and social impact. You will develop your understanding of psychology and its theories of the mind, emotions and behaviour and become familiar with how these theories are applied in our lives, communities and societies.
Psychology has a science base, yet includes a balance of liberal arts, technological knowledge, statistics and computer-based skills. As well as classic psychological theories and research, you’ll be debating social issues, studying specific mental processes, such as memory, language and attention, as well as broader issues and theories – both historical and contemporary. As well as applying psychological knowledge to a range of subjects, you will develop your skills in problem-solving, data analysis, predict and reasoning, with a focus on real-world application.

The BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies is a three-year undergraduate programme which introduces students to aspects of education, health and social care, with a specific focus on children from 0 – 8 years of age.
The course offers graduates a range of employability opportunities with module content supporting students in developing a wide range of transferable skills, as well as providing a curriculum which enables students to develop their academic skills. Students who graduate from the programme will be awarded a full and relevant degree enhancing employability by enabling them to seek roles in early childhood settings as part of the adult: child ratio.

The three-year Primary Education course at BGU is designed to allow you to study a vocational honours degree in Primary Education leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It provides an integrated academic and professional preparation for teaching. Our course team will work with you to enhance and develop your understanding of learning and teaching. You’ll spend a significant amount of time in school throughout the course, and will be encouraged and supported as you learn to develop effective ways to teach the whole primary curriculum. You will explore the theory and practice of primary education and develop a personal philosophy that will underpin all that you seek to achieve with the children you teach.

Initially, you’ll work with small groups of children, progressing on to working with a whole class, leading up to assessed school placements in your second and third years where you’ll take full responsibility for whole classes of children.

A key feature of Education Studies is a focus on you as a developing practitioner. During the study of Sport at BGU you will gain understanding in the complexities of this subject, including; the development of sport; how performance can be enhanced and how it can be managed and led. This course is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of the sport, physical education, learning and teaching and education.

Our MA in English Literature is ideal if you wish to broaden and extend your engagement with English Literature. You will explore a range of literary genres, approaches, and themes within a post-Enlightenment context, from 1780 to the present day through two team-taught modules uncover new and darker sides to literature, as well as innovative ways to interpret the past and the present through different perspectives, and four modules led by a tutor’s pursuits of selected authors, literary periods, genres and themes.

You will gain advanced knowledge of literatures in English, powers of literary critical analysis, research, independent scholarship, and knowledge transfer through excellent communication skills. This course equips you with highly sought-after organisational, project-managing, delivery, liaison, problem-solving, and interaction skills. We’ll help you to develop a detailed knowledge and deep conceptual understanding of a range of mathematical topics including complex numbers, matrices, algebraic techniques, algorithmic methods, probability and calculus. You’ll also learn how to apply your work to practical situations, using appropriate mathematical tools and technology to aid with real-life problem-solving.

Our dynamic Sports courses are designed around three specific areas - Physical Education, Sports Coaching and Sports Development. As your course progresses you can choose to specialise in a particular area, giving you as much freedom as possible to explore your personal interests.

We want students who ask questions and discuss ideas so that you develop confidence in solving problems and thinking mathematically. We encourage you to understand and enjoy mathematics rather than memorise rules and procedures. We teach mathematics mainly through group workshops and offer a learning experience that is very different from larger universities.
