The Brunel Economics and Accounting BSc gives students the theoretical and practical skills necessary to understand and analyse economic and accounting issues that arise in business, industrial, financial or government environments.

You’ll learn the fundamental analytical techniques of micro and macroeconomics and gain a comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of financial and management accounting.

You’ll also study econometrics and develop sought-after skills in data modelling and get training in analytical packages widely used by business and financial institutions such as SAS, EViews, Bloomberg, Reuters and STATA.

We offer two study options. You can choose three years full-time or four years full-time with a one-year professional placement between years two and three that will give you the chance to apply what you’ve learned to real-life situations

In your final year, you can tailor your course to specialist areas including auditing, taxation, behavioural economics and finance and the economics of labour markets.

The degree is accredited the ACCA and CIMA, which means you’ll gain exemptions from certain professional qualifying exams.

Financial mathematics builds on the application of advanced concepts in modern probability theory to enable market professionals to tackle and systematically resolve a huge range of issues in the areas of pricing, hedging, risk management, and market regulation.

On this course you’ll put theory into practice by developing your numerical and computational skills to implement financial models. These are the skills you’ll need to work for a financial institution.

The course has an emphasis on:

• The modelling of the dynamics of financial assets, both in equity markets and in fixed-income markets
• The pricing and hedging of options and other derivatives
• The quantification and management of financial risk.

The course will give you a balanced mixture of advanced mathematics (including modern probability theory and stochastic calculus), modern finance theory (including models for derivatives, interest rates, foreign exchange, equities, commodities, and credit), and computational technique (GPU-based high-performance computing).

Globalisation requires an international approach to business, and with suppliers increasingly scattered across the globe, particularly to supply chain management. Brunel’s Global Supply Chain Management MSc is a course that attracts business men and women from all over the world who want to focus specifically on a career in supply chain management or logistics, so you can be sure to find yourself in good company.

A wide range of topics is studied including development of supplier relationships, operations improvement, procurement strategies, outsourcing, inventory control, and logistics operations, as well as addressing the issues that affect these areas. The breadth of study forms a solid foundation of understanding allowing you to explain and apply theories on logistics, operations and project management, and business modelling and simulation to your practice.

The relationship between logistics and supply chain management will also be approached through the lens of contemporary social issues such as the state of geopolitics, advances in technology, and the increasing importance of transparency and sustainability.

The course includes a series of guest lectures, supply chain and procurement conferences, company visits and employability workshops. Past company visits have included site tours of Mini and Jaguar car plants. We have also welcomed LEAN specialists to Brunel Business School from Rolls Royce and Wiles Greenworld.

We ensure that you have access to a wealth of networking opportunities that bring you closer to a growing supply chain community. There is also the opportunity to present research to industry specialists for expert feedback.

This is one of the few supply chain master's courses in the UK to have received accreditation from the top supply chain and logistics bodies. On completion of the course, you can apply to become a full member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) subject to having satisfied the relevant three-year work experience requirement.

As a graduate of this master’s course, you will also meet the educational requirements for Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). This is subject to having four years of relevant career experience, including two years at senior level. Brunel holds an academic partnership with CILT and you will be able to access CILT’s Knowledge Centre which has a large collection of industry-specific resources for logistics and transport. Brunel’s Advanced Mechanical Engineering MSc degree allows you to specialise in one of two streams, thermofluids or solid body mechanics, and will give you the thorough learning experience you need to take your career in these areas to the next level.

This advanced course will help you to develop the versatility and depth to deal with complex challenges in fluid or solid engineering faced by senior engineers. It will provide you with the advanced knowledge and understanding to apply your scientific skills to solve problems and design machines that help us enjoy a better lifestyle.

Brunel’s expert academics are conducting some of the latest research in the field and this feeds directly into the course teaching. They collaborate with major oil companies, vehicle manufacturers, and leading industrial firms and government laboratories. We also work with universities around the world.

You’ll have access to our well-equipped laboratories with dedicated areas for fluid mechanics, internal combustion engines, vibrations and structural testing, and will use our high-tech computing facilities for simulation and modelling of fluid and solid research.

Our advanced mechanical engineering course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and is studied full-time over one year.

Design at Brunel is all about realising fantastic ideas in the real world. Our Product Design Engineering BSc degree is for creative thinkers who are also comfortable with mathematics and who enjoy deeper analysis of functional and technical design challenges, principally focused on industrially-manufactured products. The course spans design and engineering, meaning you can develop products that both look good and work well.

There is a lot of project-based learning to test your skills and you’ll see the outcome of your design from concept to making the actual product. This means you’ll be able to build a great portfolio of your best-quality projects, academic and industry briefs, and case studies, during your studies.

You’ll have workshop training and will use industry-standard equipment and software to develop quality hands-on skills to become a maker. Independent access is available to modern facilities that include dedicated design studios, digital sketching, extensive prototyping workshops, and electronics and digital fabrication labs. The practical knowledge you gain is transferable to industry and provides a head start for your future career as a designer and design making in the modern world.

Our product design engineering course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) and can be studied full-time over three years, or four years with a placement year.

The placement year helps you to prepare for the world of work and you’ll have a year’s worth of invaluable professional experience when you graduate. Our students have worked in both small innovation start-ups and multinational organisations such as Dyson, Jaguar Land Rover, Philips, Procter & Gamble, and Reckitt Benckiser. 

Our students have the opportunity to add another dimension to their university experience by spending a term or a year in one of our partner universities via our exchange programme: Politecnico di Milano in Italy; Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, San Francisco State University in USA and Institut Superieur de Design, ISD Bubika in France.

The International Business BSc is a highly relevant course in today’s commercial climate. It covers the fundamentals of national and international market economies and looks at the many forces that shape the operating environments of organisations worldwide.

The emphasis of this degree is on the challenges created by globalisation, challenges which are particularly relevant to multinational enterprises (MNEs) as they account for over fifty percent of global output. A deeper understanding of the commercial power of MNEs is key to understanding how and why companies expand in an increasingly competitive market.

The International Business BSc is designed for those seeking to operate within an international business setting or within companies and jobs where an understanding of international business is an asset. We’ll explore the impact of internationalisation on factors such as human resource management (HRM), entrepreneurship, and emerging markets. There will also be the opportunity to study modules on marketing, environmental sustainability, and global investment.

As well as the focus on international business, this degree will equip you with the broad business and management background and the analytical and interpersonal skills required to understand, analyse and address issues faced by today's companies. You’ll broaden your knowledge of business concepts as you work on real business issues and live case studies to develop your managerial skills.

Valuable technical skills will be developed in numerical methods, quantitative methods, and by using statistical software such as SPSS and EXCEL. This part of the course does not require A level maths or the overseas equivalent.

The course includes a module on Management Enquiry to help you adapt to university study through active learning sessions on topics such as working in groups, report writing and time management.

Our International Business BSc is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), which means you will gain exemptions from some of their professional papers if you wish to undertake further study towards being a chartered management accountant after you graduate.

You’ll also have the opportunity to take a year's paid professional work experience and be part of the team at an international company or organisation. Previous employers have included Adidas, Microsoft, British Airways, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Nissan. Our Chemical Engineering BEng degree is an innovative course that has been developed to equip you with a broad range of knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the chemical and biochemical industry.

The course has been developed according to the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) accreditation guidelines. This innovative approach means modern subjects are taught and delivered through flipped classrooms, problem-based learning and virtual reality.

Throughout your studies, you’ll have access to a new, modern laboratory with equipment and rigs for your experimental work. The latest industry standard engineering software packages are available for you to use in the purpose-built computer laboratories.

Our BEng chemical engineering course can be studied full-time over three years, or four years with a placement year.

We encourage the placement year option. This time in industry helps you to further prepare for the world of work and you’ll have a year’s worth of invaluable professional experience when you graduate. Communication has always been integral to politics and politics to communication but the interplay between them is changing dramatically in the social media age and as new forms of politics emerge in spaces as far afield as Trump’s America, Brexit Britain or Modi’s India. Such developments challenge at a global and national level the taken-for-granted assumptions about what is political and how we communicate it. The Political Communication MSc aims to tap into growing interest nationally and internationally in how to make sense of these developments and what they may mean for political communication professionals working in areas as diverse as election campaigns, PR and crisis communication, political satire, or journalism. 

The new interdisciplinary degree is unique in offering a strong practical strand of modules that aim to upskill you within a theoretically robust degree. The academic component of the degree aims to critically examine current developments but also locates them historically and within an internationalised curriculum. You will have the opportunity to take practical modules or theory-practical offering the potential to upskill in different types of writing, technical competencies and presentational elements on practical modules.

With the introduction of concepts such as flexi-hours and remote working, and rights around parental leave, human resource management is taking centre stage. The Human Resource Management MSc offers the opportunity to explore the issues of managing people both in theory and in practice and how this can contribute to organisational success.

International human resource management is also covered, looking at expatriation, management across cultures, and HR systems and processes from an international perspective.

As a prospective human resource manager, you will be able to address business and professional situations knowledgeably, making a contribution to improved organisational performance and delivering sound HR support.

BAT (Bloomberg Aptitude Test)
The BAT is a three-hour online test which can be taken on campus within an invigilated environment with a Bloomberg representative. BAT was designed in conjunction with leading financial institutions and academics to uncover a person’s levels of knowledge and skills relevant for a financial career.

Psychometric testing
Online aptitude and ability tests which are taken under test conditions. You will also receive confidential feedback on your performance and advice and tips to help you use your results effectively.

Assessment centres
The opportunity to experience a range of assessment centre exercises and tasks from the perspective of the candidate and the assessor.

Myers Briggs Type Indicator
Widely used in organisations to help people understand team dynamics, completing this will help you to identify your own preferred style of communication, information processing, and decision making.

Belbin
Belbin reports identify a person’s behavioural strengths and weaknesses to ascertain their ideal team role. It is used primarily to select and develop better-performing teams, but can also be used to raise self-awareness, increase personal effectiveness, and aid recruitment decisions.
