The English Language Teaching MA programme bridges theoretical knowledge of language teaching and learning, with practical classroom experience. You will graduate with both the practical skills and advanced theoretical understanding to succeed as an English Language teacher at all levels, from primary and secondary schools to universities and English Language schools, both in the UK and overseas.

Throughout the course you will hone your theoretical and analytical abilities, examining research into language teaching and learning and its implications for educators. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to practise in the classroom and be encouraged to critically reflect upon your own technique and approach.

Our assessment methods are designed to enable you to develop a range of real-life skills, including writing lesson plans and rationales, carrying out microteaching to peers, and leading seminar discussions. You will also develop as an independent learner and acquire advanced research skills, with the chance to complete a dissertation exploring an area of personal or professional interest. Optional modules will allow you to deepen your knowledge and explore specialised areas, including psycholinguistics, assessment and syllabus and curriculum design.

Study an exciting range of English literature from writers across the globe and from different eras or movements, such as Victorian literature and Romanticism, as well as classic and renowned authors including William Shakespeare and Christopher Marlowe. Learn how texts work, and debate literature’s role in society both now and throughout the course of history. Alongside your English Literature curriculum, you can choose to study French, Mandarin or Spanish from either beginner level or post-beginner level. You will develop your linguistic skills and also gain an understanding of the social, cultural, political, historical and artistic topics from the Francophone, Chinese or Hispanophone world.

Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), this programme explores human behaviour using sound scientific methodology – observation, measurement, and testing – to understand how and why people function in the way they do. Forensic science – familiar to most of us thanks to its appearances in popular TV police dramas – is the application of science to law. It’s carried out through the collection, preservation and analysis of evidence.

If you have an enquiring mind, are good at solving scientific problems and want to work with cutting-edge equipment and facilities, then you could be the right person to work at a crime scene or analyse the evidence recovered from that scene.

On this course, you’ll study forensic chemistry, biology, imaging and photography, the essentials of forensic investigations, and professional and quantitative scientific skills.

Then you’ll take modules on bodies, tissues and fluids, materials ID, drugs of abuse, analytical forensic chemistry, forensic IT and issues in criminal justice.

The third year will cover forensic case studies and the presentation of evidence, then fire, arson and explosions, authenticity and fraud, DNA profiling, forensic chemical pathology, and project and professional skills.

Developed with industry and certified by the NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre), this course directly addresses the unprecedented demand for cyber security expertise. It explores the underpinning technology of cyber domain and the role of linguistics, psychology and sociology in dealing with new cyber challenges.

You will study a diverse range of modules, including Cyber Threat Intelligence, Malware Analysis, and Penetration Testing and Incident Response, providing the fundamental knowledge needed to work in the sector.
