The English Language Teaching MA programme bridges theoretical knowledge of language teaching and learning, with practical classroom experience. You will graduate with both the practical skills and advanced theoretical understanding to succeed as an English Language teacher at all levels, from primary and secondary schools to universities and English Language schools, both in the UK and overseas.

Throughout the course you will hone your theoretical and analytical abilities, examining research into language teaching and learning and its implications for educators. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to practise in the classroom and be encouraged to critically reflect upon your own technique and approach.

Our assessment methods are designed to enable you to develop a range of real-life skills, including writing lesson plans and rationales, carrying out microteaching to peers, and leading seminar discussions. Our History programme is diverse, international in focus and innovative. Exploring primarily modern and contemporary history, this course will teach you the skills for effective research and analysis, helping to hone your ability to absorb, communicate and critically analyse complex information.

Reflecting the globalised world we live in, the curriculum covers a British, South Asian, European and African and North and South American history and explores topics such as colonialism, decolonisation, immigration, ethnic minorities, gender, photographic history and the history of sport and leisure.

Alongside your History curriculum, you can choose to study French, Mandarin or Spanish from either beginner level or post-beginner level. This course covers the science and technology of audio and recording systems and how these can be used effectively in recording, mixing and mastering and sound design. You will develop skills in audio mixing and mastering, learn the principles of electronics and acoustics, study the measurement and design of recording and audio product environments, and produce sound for digital media, including radio, television, film, video games and online content.

Through core modules, you will learn about the fundamentals of audio engineering, discover the acoustical foundations of musical sounds and be introduced to studio techniques. In your second and third year, you will build your portfolio and have the chance to organise and perform your own events in the heart of Leicester.

Our Product Design course helps you to take your imaginative ideas and make them real. To do that you need both the creativity and the technical skills to bring your ideas to life.

On this course you’ll study the fundamentals of maths and science, electrical, electronic and mechanical principles, and simulation and fluid dynamics, as well as the functional and market-led requirements of product design.

You’ll look at specific areas including technology integration, computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D design, sustainability and design for manufacture, and be taught by academics with current industry connections.

Visual Effects BSc has been developed in consultation with the industry to deliver skills relative to the production of visual effects (VFX) across a range of contemporary media. The use of VFX is commonplace within broadcast productions, film and animation, video games, and in advertising. This is reflected in the scope of this course as it pulls from a number of disciplines including film, special effects, animation and 3D, to complement the interdisciplinarity of the subject.

This course also encourages you to develop your creative flair and understanding of industry-standard software to create your own 3D content for use in film and television projects.

As an integral part of the multibillion-pound film and television industry, studying the creative and technical skills used in VFX can open up extensive career prospects.

Our graduates have gone on to work in roles such as compositors and matte painters, as well as wider media-based roles such as colourists and finishers.

This course explores the application and development of techniques used by enterprises for the analysis of business information. Throughout the course we will expand your knowledge of contemporary software tools and help you to gain invaluable insights into real-world solutions through our research groups, guest lectures and seminars.

On our Business Intelligence Systems and Data Mining MSc, your learning will be supported by experienced SAS-accredited staff, who will equip you with a comprehensive understanding of SAS business intelligence software.

You will learn about the Business Intelligence system concept, its application in organisations, and its relationships with other computer-based information systems – such as decision and management support, data warehouses and artificial intelligence.

We will teach you to review data mining methods and techniques available for effectively uncovering important information from large data sets. In doing so, you will develop an in-depth knowledge of data mining methods and gain practical experience of using the data mining software, SAS Enterprise Miner.
