Benefiting from more than 50 years of successful teaching, our Computer Science course focuses on modern approaches to software systems development, allowing you to explore both the theoretical and practical skills needed to understand programming language concepts, software design methods, secure web systems, computer architecture and computer networks.

The course prepares you for a wide variety of career opportunities, from programming and developer roles to software engineering, with computer technology closely linked with an extensive range of industries such as medicine, education, entertainment, security and architecture.

Visual Effects BSc has been developed in consultation with the industry to deliver skills relative to the production of visual effects (VFX) across a range of contemporary media. The use of VFX is commonplace within broadcast productions, film and animation, video games, and in advertising. This is reflected in the scope of this course as it pulls from a number of disciplines including film, special effects, animation and 3D, to complement the interdisciplinarity of the subject.

This course also encourages you to develop your creative flair and understanding of industry-standard software to create your own 3D content for use in film and television projects.

As an integral part of the multibillion-pound film and television industry, studying the creative and technical skills used in VFX can open up extensive career prospects.

Our graduates have gone on to work in roles such as compositors and matte painters, as well as wider media-based roles such as colourists and finishers.

The production and utilisation of energy is a key global issue. Governments and industry are becoming increasingly aware of balancing energy production and utilisation with the need to be environmentally conscious and energy efficient.

This course addresses energy production, storage and utilisation. Develop your understanding of the production and efficient use of conventional and renewable energy sources for power generation, and modern energy storage solutions, complemented with elements of energy economics. You will gain a strong understanding of key principles in engineering, mechanics, electricals and electronics, and will explore specialist topics in modules including Sustainable Buildings, Energy for Transport Applications and Low Carbon Energy Technology.

You will have the opportunity to gain industry experience by undertaking an optional work placement. Recent placements have taken place at companies such as Cummins, Network Rail and Caterpillar. We also place a strong focus on employability through industry relevant modules, including Energy Economics and Policy and Project Management.

Graduates of this course go on to a vast range of careers in production, utilisation, energy storage and management, design, research and development, environment control and policy making.

Intellectually and artistically demanding, this course offers daily dance classes in contemporary techniques, ballet for contemporary dancers, fusion (street, urban, hip-hop), improvisation and African principles.

Alongside developing an outstanding dance technique, you will acquire critical thinking, technical and artistic skills to prepare you for a range of dance-related careers. International Business BA (Hons) has been structured to provide you with up-to-date knowledge and insight of the critical issues in International Business. This programme will help provide you with transferable skills useful in the criminal justice sector and allied career fields. You can develop your practical experience through a wide range of volunteering opportunities in local criminal justice agencies, including HM Prison and Probation Service, youth offending services and victim support.

This is an applied course and you will learn first-hand from a team of experienced academics who have strong links with the British Society of Criminology and the British Sociological Association.

You will study a range of topics, including Crime and Punishment in Contemporary Society, Crime, Risk and Community Safety, and Young People and the Criminal Justice System. Mechatronics covers the integration of mechanical, electronic and intelligent control sub-systems to realise a complete system, which may be a product, machine or process. In-depth study of practice and contemporary theories will equip you with an advanced knowledge of management principles in business and HR. We will take the study of management and organisations from its historical roots to the present day, and, using real-life examples, we will teach you to critically analyse organisational development and the possible consequences on human resource management.  

The international aspect to the course allows you to explore the complexities of management within organisations that operate and trade across multiple countries, and gain an understanding of management in a global context. Our Intelligent Systems MSc provides you with knowledge of the various models of computational intelligence, an insight into their theoretical basis, and the skills to apply the associated techniques to a wide variety of industry problems.

This course explores the fabric of the world around us - from wallpaper and soft furnishings to transport upholstery and luxury fashion. The curriculum will give you the practical, digital and professional skills required to become a designer in the contemporary global textile market.

You can specialise in one of four areas – mixed media, print, knit or weave – and will explore the key applications of fashion, interior and lifestyle.

• Mixed media focuses on creating contemporary collections using embroidery and embellishment to build up surfaces.
• Print explores the translation of imagery onto textile surfaces with the inventive use of screen printing and dyeing processes.
• Knit and weave concentrate on developing innovative textile structures through yarn and fibres.
