Economics is key to understanding some of the critical questions facing our world. This course will explore these questions while also examining some of the principles and theories that can help us to answer them. The programme will also put data-driven analysis at the heart of its approach, as emphasised by Contemporary Economics.

In this course you will learn to evaluate a variety of advanced quantitative and econometric techniques, and be able to effectively solve economic problems using data application tools. This includes applying knowledge to a range of specialised areas within economics using econometric techniques.

You will have an opportunity to build real skills for future employability. This includes state of the art knowledge in digital software and applications, as well as core skills in writing, presenting and teamwork.

You will study a range of areas, including Applied Microeconomics, Data Management and Visualisation and Digital Economics and Artificial Intelligence which are all taught by leading experts in their fields.

This course will enable you to develop a broad, industry-relevant understanding of information systems, with opportunities to specialise in your individual areas of interest.

On this course, you will develop an advanced understanding of your design practice, and discover how emerging digital technologies can enhance your skill set, in order to take an individual and innovative approach to tackling complex industry challenges.

The MSc programme is tailored for students with BSc degrees or engineering design degrees, so that they can build on their prior technical knowledge. There are no engineering modules on the MSc, instead the broad curriculum has been designed for you to respond to the assessments by applying industrial product design and engineering design principles within concepts, final specification and design. As an MSc graduate, you will have the technical engineering design expertise that will make you ideally placed for industry roles in manufacturing, product and industrial design - or to continue onto further research and development within the industry or by studying a PhD. After looking at the roles and responsibilities of buyers – from design concept to point of sale – you’ll focus on the business side of fashion, building your knowledge of planning, branding, public relations/communications and social media platforms.

You will study computer-aided design (CAD) to ensure that your design and marketing concepts can be presented and communicated in a professional, and industry-recognised, style. You will also cover report writing, data selection, presentation and critical analysis.

Computational Intelligence (CI) encompasses the techniques and methods used to tackle problems that traditional approaches to computing struggle to solve. The four areas of fuzzy logic, neural networks, CI optimisation and knowledge-based systems encompass much of what is considered to be computational (or artificial) intelligence. There are also opportunities to apply what you learn in areas such as robot control and games development, depending on your interests.

You can choose from a number of specialist modules including natural language processing, artificial neural networks and data mining techniques, while developing your skills in our dedicated robotics laboratory, equipped with a variety of mobile robots. The applied computational intelligence module considers knowledge-based systems, as well as the historical, philosophical and future implications of AI, and focuses on current research and applications in the area.
