Quantity Surveying and Construction focuses on controlling and managing the costs of construction projects; you could be involved with any stage of a project, from feasibility, design and construction, through to extension, refurbishment, maintenance and even demolition.

Our course will help you gain an understanding of the technical aspects of construction over the whole life of a building or facility. You will learn to understand contracts, budgets, quantities, measurements and sustainability to achieve the best quality and value within the project’s specifications. Exploring primarily modern and contemporary history, our course is diverse, international in focus and innovative. Reflecting the globalised world we live in, the curriculum covers a wide range of European and non-European histories and explores topics such as colonialism, decolonisation, immigration, ethnic minorities and gender.

This course will hone your ability to absorb, communicate and critically analyse complex information. As you progress through the course, we’ll challenge you with more in-depth explorations and you can deepen your own historical interests. You will learn about British, South Asian, European, African and North and South American history and also discover unique specialist topics such as history of photography and history of sport and leisure. You can also select a route through this degree in English Literature or Education.

On the Politics pathway, you can take modules that deal with British Politics beyond Westminster, the politics of the Americas, race, identity and class in the City and the politics of sustainable futures. On the International Relations pathway, you will focus on global inequalities and development, security and peace issues and international crisis management. All students have the chance to undertake a final project on a subject of their own choice.
