The English Language Teaching MA programme bridges theoretical knowledge of language teaching and learning, with practical classroom experience. You will graduate with both the practical skills and advanced theoretical understanding to succeed as an English Language teacher at all levels, from primary and secondary schools to universities and English Language schools, both in the UK and overseas.

Throughout the course you will hone your theoretical and analytical abilities, examining research into language teaching and learning and its implications for educators. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to practise in the classroom and be encouraged to critically reflect upon your own technique and approach.

Our assessment methods are designed to enable you to develop a range of real-life skills, including writing lesson plans and rationales, carrying out microteaching to peers, and leading seminar discussions. You will also develop as an independent learner and acquire advanced research skills, with the chance to complete a dissertation exploring an area of personal or professional interest. Intellectually and artistically demanding, this course offers daily dance classes in contemporary techniques, ballet for contemporary dancers, fusion (street, urban, hip-hop), improvisation and African principles.

Alongside developing an outstanding dance technique, you will acquire critical thinking, technical and artistic skills to prepare you for a range of dance-related careers. The Global Health MSc course is a new and innovative learning opportunity offering a balanced blend of knowledge and skills in regard to addressing global health challenges and public health issues. Underpinned by the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the course will provide opportunities for you to develop transferable skills to apply for careers working with global communities both internationally and in the UK.

Students will undertake a range of modules including: Introduction to Global Health, Critical Issues in Global Health, Global Health skills, Researching Global Health and Global Health Dissertation. The course will be delivered by staff with expertise from a range of backgrounds including both practice and research.

The course will provide opportunities for students to acquire interdisciplinary skills, providing them with the tools to work as part of an interdisciplinary team. To enable students to further develop their skills, they may have opportunities for volunteering (subject to availability) with diverse communities both nationally and globally through DMU Local and DMU Square Mile

Energy Engineering MSc will give you an in-depth understanding of contemporary issues in energy and sustainability, and will develop your knowledge of experimental and computer modelling techniques for the design of energy systems, such as electricity grids, thermal energy networks and transportation systems.

You can choose from a range of modules to focus on either sustainable development in practice, sustainability in the built environment, or techniques of energy analysis. The course is informed by research from the Institute of Energy and Sustainable Development (IESD) so that you develop industry-relevant and up-to-date knowledge and expertise.

Many of our experienced academic team have expertise in the specific domains of wellbeing, which are embedded within the course, including developmental psychology, occupational psychology, health psychology, clinical psychology, counselling psychology and cognitive/biological psychology.
