A Combined Studies degree allows students to design their own degree course from the subjects offered at Heriot-Watt University. Students take a range of subjects not covered by other degree courses and can pick the right set of subjects from the wide range available to meet individual learning goals. Students can adapt their study on a part-time basis or at a distance. With the help of a Director of Studies, students can devise a study course that will support their ambitions.

The course covers basic knowledge, combined with recent developments in research. It’s designed to help you develop your advanced mathematical and statistical skills – giving you an understanding of their application to the formulation and solution of real-world problems. Our Urban Planning and Property Development course combines real estate management with urban and regional planning and design to provide a broad knowledge of the sector. You will learn key field work skills in surveying, mapping and key research skills whilst learning core modules in statistics and data analysis. Cross disciplinary working helps students acquire a mutual understanding between professions.

Sandwich year:

• A sandwich year option is available, giving students the opportunity to spend one year in a paid placement before completing the final year of study.

Our BSc Computer Systems course is designed to give you a solid foundation in computing, together with the necessary applied skills.
