The course is highly practical, giving you hands-on experience. You'll spend 50 per cent of your time on placement in hospitals, in the community and in our skills and simulation labs developing valuable hands-on skills. . You'll work with patients, carers, clinical mentors and other healthcare professionals. Placement opportunities include medical and surgical wards, oncology, ICU, A&E, coronary care, operating theatres, district nursing, GP practice nursing and integrated community teams..

This degree will prepare you for a career working with children, young people and their families in a variety of settings across health, social care, education and youth justice.

You will have two work placements with our partner organisations, giving you the opportunity to put theory into practice. Placements will be in settings such as youth justice, early intervention, health services, schools and children's centres. We also give you the option to find your own placement with children and young people in a field you feel personally passionately about.

You'll develop a knowledge of social pedagogy practice, an inclusive and holistic approach to wellbeing, learning and growth. This degree is approved by the Social Pedagogy Professional Association (SPPA).

You will learn about children's law and rights and the importance of safeguarding children and young people. You'll also study child development, relationships, ethics and diversity and relationship-based professional practice.

Social pedagogy is an approach to caring for children and young people which combines education and care, emphasising that bringing up children is the shared responsibility of families and society. A key principle is that the young person is in charge of their own life, and you work alongside them.

This two year masters course is ideal for registered adult nurses who have already studied at degree level and wish to gain the knowledge and skills to register as midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You will study the midwifery profession and practice, research, biological science, social science, public health, law and ethics.
