This industrially relevant course will provide you with a strong background in the theory of analytical techniques and give you the ability to apply these techniques to complex analytical problems.

You will study good measurement and scientific practice and the evaluation and interpretation of data. You will also develop skills to prepare you for your career, including problem solving, organisation, data collation, review and synopsis, time management and teamwork. Your independent project can be an excellent selling point when looking for a job promotion; you may be offered a placement within industry to carry it out. Past projects have looked at dust sources at Hampton Court Palace, determination of Hexavalent chromium, thermo-responsive polymers for water purification and radiochemical investigation of uranium 232.

This course examines the design, development and management of information systems. You will study how information is used in organisations, who uses it, how it relates to decision making and contributes to organisational objectives.

You can choose to study one of two pathways – haematology or medical microbiology. Criminology is the study of crime, its control and its consequences. It combines the study of politics, law, psychology, society and culture to understand processes of criminalisation, practices of crime control and prevention.

You'll study patterns and perceptions of crime, both nationally and globally, the impact of different practices of punishment on offenders, issues of diversity and discrimination in criminal justice, and police power and culture. Our course looks at research in child psychology, focusing on the advanced study of psychological development in children and the implications of psychological theory and research for policy and practice.

On this Philosophy and Contemporary Critical Theory MA course you'll study key works of critical theory in relation to the social and political problems of the present. It allows you to combine study of the two main traditions of critical theory, the Frankfurt School and French structuralism and anti-humanism, as well as engage with work by thinkers who have become influential only in the last two decades, e.g. Agamben, Spivak, Badiou, Butler and Deleuze.
