This course explores current trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and examines the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. Examples of projects include: medicinal chemistry (eg. synthesis of anti-cancer compounds and natural products), pharmaceutical technology (eg. optimisation of tablet manufacture and formulation), and clinical pharmacy (eg. pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and medicines regulations).

Fascinating and disturbing, criminal behaviour arises from social, biological and cognitive factors. We need to understand these if we're to help create a safer and fairer society.

Forensic psychology looks at the relationships between brain and criminal behaviour, how social groups interact and how human beings learn and develop. It also examines the treatment of offenders and the impact of crime on the broader community. You'll be able to gain valuable experience with the opportunity for work-based practice or observation.

You'll acquire a broad foundation of knowledge around key theories and ideas of psychological science, critically analyse historic perspectives and contemporary issues, and explore the social nature of crime and deviance. This course, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, provides an in-depth understanding of disease processes and diagnostic techniques. It links academic knowledge to the practical applications of biomedical science, particularly in relation to modern diagnostic methods. You can choose to study one of two pathways – haematology or medical microbiology. Taught by researchers and expert practitioners, the course content is kept up to date through extensive links with leading healthcare and research laboratories such as GlaxoSmithKline, the Institute of Cancer Research and local hospitals. This course is an ideal first step towards a pharmaceutical career. It examines the science behind the preparation, supply and monitoring of medicines. You'll study law, ethics, dispensing practice, the role of hospitals, community, GP practice, care home and industrial pharmacists.

Working alongside other future healthcare professionals, you'll talk to patients about their conditions and treatment. Through case studies, you'll learn how chemistry, pharmacology and pharmaceutics affect clinical practice. In Year 4 you'll complete a research-based project, for which you'll receive specialist tuition.
