This course, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, provides an in-depth understanding of disease processes and diagnostic techniques. It links academic knowledge to the practical applications of biomedical science, particularly in relation to modern diagnostic methods. You can choose to study one of two pathways – haematology or medical microbiology. Taught by researchers and expert practitioners, the course content is kept up to date through extensive links with leading healthcare and research laboratories such as GlaxoSmithKline, the Institute of Cancer Research and local hospitals. Media is central to the way in which we understand and experience the world around us. This course will equip you with both the knowledge and skills to understand the world of media and to engage with it as practitioners, researchers, media theorists and industry experts.

You'll acquire practical skills in media production across a range of digital platforms, i.e. video, websites and podcasts, television, websites, motion graphics.

In an editorial team, you will produce two magazines and a magazine website and undertake a placement on a published title.

You will also have the opportunity to study magazine design, production, fashion and sport or data journalism. Finally, you will carry out a 12–15,000 word dissertation or a related practical project.

This course examines the physical science of natural hazards, the social factors that can contribute to disasters, emergency planning and disaster risk reduction (DRR). You'll gain expertise in a range of practical and field techniques through "real-world" exercises.

This course examines the causes and consequences of crime, crime prevention, ways to limit the harm caused by crime and the workings of the criminal justice system (including policing and punishment).

Reflecting the real-life relevance of this degree, the course includes court observations, research and case studies.

You'll study individual motivations, psychological influences and the social, cultural and political environments that surround crime. There are advanced modules on the context of crime, criminalisation and investigation, criminal behaviour and therapy. You can also explore your area of interest in greater depth in your dissertation project.
