You'll explore the sources of medicine, how medicines work, how they can be formulated (such as via tablet, cream or inhaler), administered, analysed and tested.

The course shares its first two years with the Pharmaceutical Science BSc (Hons) programme and provides a wide understanding of all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. In Year 3 you'll deepen your knowledge of natural product chemistry. You'll develop skills for testing and evaluating the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical products. In Year 4 you'll develop skills in experiment design, critical analysis, problem-solving and laboratory work.

This course, accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science, provides an in-depth understanding of disease processes and diagnostic techniques. It links academic knowledge to the practical applications of biomedical science, particularly in relation to modern diagnostic methods. You can choose to study one of two pathways – haematology or medical microbiology. Taught by researchers and expert practitioners, the course content is kept up to date through extensive links with leading healthcare and research laboratories such as GlaxoSmithKline, the Institute of Cancer Research and local hospitals. On this course, you'll evaluate many of society's current issues and learn how psychology and criminology can raise questions and find answers.

The recent evolution of Internet services, with video representing more than 80% of the data traffic, and the growth of on-demand video streaming (as offered by YouTube, Netflix, Amazon) and live streaming (as offered by Facebook, Twitch, etc.) require new professional roles. The parallel evolution of wireless networks (with 5G and in particular the Internet of Things paradigm) requires strong knowledge of the latest wireless communications strategies and standards for such professional roles.

The overarching aim of the MSc Mobile Networks and Media Streaming programme is to provide practically based education and training for students seeking employment in the areas of networking, media streaming, and wireless communications. You'll study civil engineering subjects, such as structures, hydraulics, geotechnics, construction materials, mathematics and surveying. You'll also study the design and construction of sustainable infrastructures, focusing on water engineering, transport, highway and the energy sector.

You'll work in specialist laboratories, including concrete, hydraulics, materials, soils and structures, and experience real-life scenarios through site visits and field trips.

Practical work includes surveying, model-making, engineering drawing and computer-aided design. You'll also gain skills in project and business management.

This course explores current trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and examines the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. You will gain an understanding of processes used in clinical trials and in the development, manufacture and regulation of medicines. Through an independent research project, you will study an area of interest in depth. Examples of projects include: medicinal chemistry (eg. synthesis of anti-cancer compounds and natural products), pharmaceutical technology (eg. optimisation of tablet manufacture and formulation), and clinical pharmacy (eg. pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and medicines regulations).

Some of the most challenging problems in industry and commerce are associated with software development. This course will equip computing professionals with advanced knowledge of the latest methods and tools in software engineering, as well as practical skills in software development.

The knowledge and skills learnt on this course will enable you to make an effective contribution as part of a team building software systems, delivering optimum results in terms of cost, time and software quality.

You can combine this course with Management Studies, which will enable you to develop the skills to successfully lead teams and manage innovation.
