As part of your course you’ll:

• Undertake a professional placement during your second year

Leeds is home to hundreds of professional theatre collectives, dance companies and arts festivals so you’ll be surrounded by a vibrant creative community and an exciting range of performance work.

We’ll support you in setting up your second-year professional placement. You could spend a semester learning alongside and networking with one of the many artistic companies in Leeds or you could choose to travel abroad to work for an international organisation. Our students have previously completed placements at Company Chameleon in Manchester, BMotion Festival in Bassano del Grappa, Italy and with theatre company Third Angel based in Sheffield.

All of the staff teaching on your course are practising artists, which means our teaching is based on real professional experience. You’ll also have the chance to attend additional workshops delivered by external artists and companies.

Open up a world of opportunities by exploring some of the most pressing challenges facing nations today. From climate change and conflict to trade negotiations and social inequality, you will gain an understanding of these challenges at a local and global level.

You will discover how the subject of international relations has evolved, considering traditional theories and how they compare with contemporary thinking and current events. By studying global institutions such as the World Bank, the United Nations and the EU and the role they play on the political stage, you will gain an insight into how they deal with the shifting political and social issues that influence decision making at a regional, national and worldwide level.

You will also explore the impact of globalisation and its consequences for international society, enhancing your expertise and giving you the confidence to tackle the ethical challenges occurring in the world around you.

Our course incorporates a focus on employability, personal effectiveness, advocacy, activism and research skills. You'll have access to both student and academic members of staff with a variety of interests and expertise related to the study of International Relations, all of whom share an interest in rigorous academic study and a desire for progressive social change locally and globally.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Develop the range of skills you’ll need to be able to undertake construction management positions
• Study the legal, financial and economic environments in which the industry operates
• Understand the other professions involved in building
• Gain an overview of the whole construction process, including surveying, quantity surveying and architectural technology
• Learn to use commercial awareness and professional managerial knowledge in managing contracts within specified quality, cost and schedule boundaries
• Understand responsibilities associated with managing site operations, including those concerning the commissioners of a development, direct employees, subcontractors, the public and agents of regulatory and other authorities

As the UK's cities and towns continue to expand, there is an increased demand for experts in property and real estate management.

This RICS accredited course reflects the real-world workings of the property and construction industries, preparing you for a career in property investment and development, property management or real estate management.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Develop a combination of technical knowledge and professional skills
• Study the planning, building, maintenance and day-to-day management of properties from domestic dwellings to full-scale industrial and commercial units
• Cover key topics including estate and property management; portfolio management; valuation for mortgages; negotiation for sale, purchase, leasing or auction; and the financial aspects of real estate, including the financing of real estate projects
• Explore the impact of urban and regional planning policies on property management
• Gain the skills to work with planners to enhance commercial development proposals within a given timescale and budget

Working closely with other built environment students, you’ll take part in projects that mirror the professional relationships you’ll experience in industry. This will develop your sense of identity as a property manager and provide you with an understanding of the role played by bankers, accountants, developers, surveyors and investors in the real estate industry.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Find new ways to produce innovative choreography
• Choose optional modules to create an individual programme of study
• Explore your artistic interests and make several new pieces of choreography
• Engage with the latest research and insights, and learn how to apply this to real-world situations
• Develop the skills to respond to a brief, curate work for festivals and events, and collaborate on and initiate interdisciplinary and experimental projects
• Explore traditional and alternative settings for dance and performance, from the studio and theatre to galleries and museums
• Have the opportunity to work with community groups using participatory, immersive and specialised collaborative approaches to develop new choreographic methods
• Share ideas and experiences with fellow students to collaborate, critique and engage with each other's choreographic identities

Cultivate your managerial skills in a hands-on marketing context. Your course modules will provide vital insights into the function of management, strategic and international marketing - particularly the role of social media - and the benefits of understanding consumer behaviour in small and medium-sized enterprises and blue-chip organisations. You could work on a live consultancy project, which will expose you to potential employers and industry contacts, or you could choose to specialise in a particular area of management or marketing when researching and writing your dissertation.

You will be guided and supported throughout your course by our expert academics, who will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to make an immediate impact on your chosen career. You will have access to our bespoke Professional Suite, which replicates a realistic working environment, and you will nurture your analytical and communication skills working on live briefs so you can excel in your degree and realise your potential.

You will build your experience and meet potential employers while working on live projects in our purpose-built Professional Suite. You could also expand your networks and refine your expertise working on a major consultancy project for an international organisation.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Experiment with painting, performance, installation, photography, drawing, printmaking, animation, digital processes and other media
• Taught by nationally and internationally recognised artists and practitioners, who will help you to develop your artistic identity
• Participate in seminars, collaborative on and off-site activities and live curatorial projects
• Exhibit your projects to the public and impress industry by exhibiting your work at the end of your final year
• Be encouraged to take a proactive approach and make your own opportunities, as you will after graduating

This course will equip you with a deep understanding of accounting and finance and their importance for organisations and businesses.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Specialise in accountancy or gain a wider perspective on business
• Have access to industry links and guest lectures

If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills. Our students have enjoyed placements with Disney, Morrisons and the NHS.

Our guest lecture series will help support your development. Past speakers include the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, the Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association and the Chief Economist of Yorkshire Bank.

You will specialise in either contemporary literature or creative writing. Taught in workshops held on weekday evenings, you will be able to fit your studies around your existing commitments.

Contemporary Literature
Specialise in researching contemporary literature. You will be introduced to a range of recent literary texts in English and develop an advanced, critical understanding of recent debates on the contemporary creative process.

You will be encouraged by expert tutors to develop your skills in close reading, creating and delivering presentations and formal discussions. Modules will explore how contemporary literary studies is a creative process, and will enable you to specialise in topics at the cutting edge of the discipline.   

Your independent project will enable you to experience the process of defining your own area of investigation and conducting in-depth research and writing.

Creative Writing
Study creative writing at an advanced level. From the outset, you will focus on developing particular expertise in the writing process, and the texts and theories you study will enhance your writing practice.

We will feed your entrepreneurial spirit and develop your management skills so you can create, establish and lead your own venture. We will also give you the knowledge and confidence to implement new strategies within an established company to drive change, encourage innovation and help the business flourish.

As well as gaining a broad overview of business, you will also explore your individual management style and develop critical-thinking patterns and problem solving and decision-making techniques to share and reflect upon with your peers. Working closely with industry professionals, you will be encouraged to experiment with new ideas and you will learn to identify opportunities and risks in order to develop a viable business venture or project.

Studying professional interactions, you will learn that strong communication and relationship development skills coupled with a solid emotional intelligence base are key to managing and sustaining complex business partnerships.
