Your studies will be informed and delivered by people from all areas of the fashion industry, and you’ll work on live briefs set by real clients. Our placements will allow you build your experience and contacts, as well as helping you decide what you want to achieve when you graduate.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Develop concepts and narratives through drawing, sequential illustration and animation, digital practices, three-dimensional forms, performance and creative writing
• Underpin these practices with an emphasis on drawing and image-making
• Challenge the conventions of the discipline of illustration
• Define and locate your own practice within the professional context of illustration
• Investigate established unfamiliar and emerging processes, to inform your own individual methodologies

You’ll learn from experienced lecturers who practice and research in diverse industry fields with the knowledge and skills to support multidisciplinary explorations.

You’ll develop your ability to communicate and contribute to a team project by working with students studying different disciplines. This will simulate the working environment and enable you to practise collaborating on projects and briefs, a skill you’ll need in the workplace whether you choose to join an agency, studio or work as freelance. 

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Design and detail buildings to bring ideas to life
• Enhance your understanding of working in the field through site visits and live projects
• Work on a wide range of design projects, from small domestic to large-scale commercial buildings
• Study a variety of subjects to become proficient in construction technology, materials, legislation and management
• Spend time in the design studio, using industry-standard design suites to develop and apply your skills on building design projects

As part of this course you’ll:

• Experiment with painting, performance, installation, photography, drawing, printmaking, animation, digital processes and other media
• Taught by nationally and internationally recognised artists and practitioners, who will help you to develop your artistic identity
• Participate in seminars, collaborative on and off-site activities and live curatorial projects

• Study the theories that shape the practice of landscape architecture in a well-equipped studio environment in the vibrant city of Leeds

• Enhance your practical performance skills and confidence in your ability to create performance work through weekly technique classes and creative workshops
• Undertake a professional placement during your second year

Leeds is home to hundreds of professional theatre collectives, dance companies and arts festivals so you’ll be surrounded by a vibrant creative community and an exciting range of performance work.

We’ll support you in setting up your second-year professional placement. You could spend a semester learning alongside and networking with one of the many artistic companies in Leeds or you could choose to travel abroad to work for an international organisation. Our students have previously completed placements at Company Chameleon in Manchester, BMotion Festival in Bassano del Grappa, Italy and with theatre company Third Angel based in Sheffield.

All of the staff teaching on your course are practising artists, which means our teaching is based on real professional experience. You’ll also have the chance to attend additional workshops delivered by external artists and companies.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Explore criminological issues alongside a psychological focus
• Learn new ways of thinking about society while honing your understanding of people
• Engage with assumptions about the place of crime in society and our responses
• Gain an understanding of the causes and effects of crime and deviant behaviour through social research
• Use a range of psychological approaches to study human behaviour and thought to understand why people respond the way they do to crime 

Volunteering will enable you to develop your professional skills and add experience to your CV. Previous students have volunteered as learning support workers for the Leeds Youth Justice Board.

From global events such as credit crunches to the closure of our favourite high street stores, explore the impact finance and the economy have on the world around you.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Develop valuable analytical skills in finance and economics that will prepare you for the workplace
• Discover how financial decisions made by individuals and businesses affect consumers, workers, industry, commerce and government
• Gain a thorough understanding of financial markets and the structure of business organisations

If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills. Our students have enjoyed placements with Disney, Morrisons and the NHS.

Civil engineering is a rewarding profession with engineers increasingly working in multidisciplinary teams.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Study a practical course that will ensure you have the technical and management capabilities to contribute effectively in a wide range of environments
• Be supported in recording your initial professional development for membership of the accrediting institutions
• Secure work placements during the summer, with the help of your course team

Accredited IEng (Full)
This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation on behalf of the Engineering Council as fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

The course team will help you secure work placements during the summer and your sandwich year, if you choose to take one. A placement or sandwich year will provide you with a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the workplace, which will help you apply for jobs when you graduate.
