Course structure
You’ll study a balance of history and media modules in your first year, helping you develop a strong skillset and knowledge of methodologies in each discipline. Things like source analysis and media interpretation.

In your second year, you’ll bring your skillset together by completing your first interdisciplinary module. You’ll also begin driving your studies in the direction you want through a wide range of module options.

Your third year culminates in the completion of your dissertation, which explores and celebrates the interconnections between history and media. Employability is embedded throughout your course.

You will have the opportunity to experience a range of techniques across microbiology, and the topics you will study, from the role of microbiology in medicine to molecular microbiology and epidemiology, will give you specialist knowledge and a variety of skills applicable to a range of careers in the field of biomedical sciences and microbiology.

Acquire the knowledge and skills needed for a career as an environmental health practitioner by analysing the five main intervention areas: housing, food safety, occupational health and safety, environmental protection and public health. You will develop your understanding of environmental stress factors and their effect on human health and safety, together with the legal and technical frameworks for controlling these risks.

Exposure to a range of techniques, including microscopy, spectroscopy and diagnostic assays, and their associated theories will significantly develop your understanding of medical biochemistry.

During your studies, you will prepare for, and undertake, an extensive independent project. You will discuss your project in detail with your supervisor before carrying out your research and writing up your study in a thesis. Additionally, you will study related subjects such as metabolism, physiology and the genetics of drug responses.

This course has been designed in-line with the specific criteria required to go on to undertake the NHS Scientist Training Programme.
