As part of this course you’ll:

• Gain the skills to work with children and young people who are experiencing mental health related issues
• Develop a critical and in-depth understanding of mental health and its relationship to children, young people and families within a changing and fluid society

Nutrition plays a key part in the promotion of good health and the primary prevention of diet-related illness in communities and populations.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Become a critically reflective practitioner and gain practical experience in our health science and catering laboratories
• Gain an understanding of the relationship between food, nutrition and health
• Manage, analyse, interpret and communicate information and statistics about nutrition related health and disease states
• Undertake work-based placements to apply your expertise and refine your practical skills
• Have the option of undertaking a sandwich placement in year three

Studio time is central to this course. You’ll develop your skills in our extensive studio facilities, which include workshop and computer-modelling software.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Study a wide range of topics – from studio design and model-making, to art, history and culture
• Use industry-standard tools to design and build your projects
• Learn technical skills in workshops alongside students from our BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design and BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture & Design courses

In the urbanised landscape we inhabit, every part has been designed or at least influenced by human beings. Take a broad view or look in detail and you will see a complex living organism that is the canvas for landscape architecture.

On this course, you will explore techniques which will help you become a creative and reflective designer, primed to start a rewarding career as a chartered landscape architect.

We are dedicated to ensuring your course suits your needs, so you will be able to tailor your studies towards your career aspirations. Through live projects and competitions, you will be tasked with responding to the numerous environmental challenges facing today's landscape architects.

On this flexible, studio-based course, you will benefit from our multimedia studios equipped with drawing boards, computers and model-making facilities, specialist workshops.

Acquire the knowledge and skills needed for a career as an environmental health practitioner by analysing the five main intervention areas: housing, food safety, occupational health and safety, environmental protection and public health. You will develop your understanding of environmental stress factors and their effect on human health and safety, together with the legal and technical frameworks for controlling these risks.

The opportunity to interact with students from other vocational courses will broaden your perspective of environmental health issues, and you will have access to our state-of-the-art acoustics laboratory and our dedicated food inspection facilities to put your expertise into practice. You will also have the chance to engage in simulated sessions, including mock kitchen inspections and staged courtroom trials to see how the law operates in environmental health cases. These scenarios could help you work towards professional registration as an environmental health practitioner.

Gain valuable professional skills and specialist knowledge in both marketing and public relations.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore a range of topics, from digital marketing to reputation management and campaign development to customer relations
• Understand and positively respond to the changing technological, political, ethical and legal contexts within which organisations currently operate
• Take a real-life client-centred approach to learning though project work, campaigns and consultancy in this dynamic sector

As well as the chance to work with a variety of employers, you’ll have access to our specialist facilities, including the Simulation Suite where you can replicate real-life PR scenarios and a media suite.

Develop your critical analytical and interpretive skills and forge a deeper sociological understanding of the world around you.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Learn to understand the complex social conditions that drive people to commit crime and how that expert knowledge can enhance your study of criminology
• Critically analyse and challenge responses to crime in order to help shape a better society
• Study a variety of topics such as modern theories of sociology and criminology, exploring issues such as youth crime, social exclusion and how the media shapes our perceptions of crime
• Choose your own area of investigation when researching and writing your dissertation

You’ll engage with sociology and criminology equally. Through a blend of workshops, collaborative projects and observational field trips, you’ll be encouraged to drive your studies in the direction of your choosing.

Sociological projects can include creating wikis or presenting your work at a student conference. You could even see your critical essay published in our school's highly regarded sociology journal.

Develop the specialist skills and knowledge to enter the games, digital and creative entertainment industries.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Focus on three main areas: programming and software engineering; art, concept and asset production; and game design studies, practice and theory
• Take products from an initial idea through the design, visualisation and technical implementation stages
• Be encouraged to foster your individual creativity
• Produce games based on your ideas
• Work with other students and tutors who have a passion for games and gaming

 Placement opportunities, networking events and guest lectures from industry experts such as Disney animator Aaron Blaise and codemasters Team17 Digital and Dan Gray from UsTwoGames will enhance your awareness of the career opportunities open to you.

We are also members of industry network, Game Republic, where past students have won awards from industry judges in the Student Showcase Competition.

Final year students also have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of leading employers at the end of year degree show. You can see some of their work in the Leeds School of Arts Festival. Previous years have seen many of our students gain job offers through the showcase opportunities.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Explore a wide range of theories within psychology, mental health, counselling, child development and psychotherapy
• Combine theoretical knowledge with opportunities to work in mental health environments and develop your ability to build effective therapeutic relationships
• Study a variety of therapeutic approaches  
• Explore psychotherapeutic models including cognitive and behavioural development and look at theories on how mental health issues develop across the lifespan
• Learn how to develop your interpersonal skills in order to build counselling relationships between you and your clients 

This course is suitable for those working in mental health services wanting to further their knowledge and career, or for those wishing to enter the health and care professions. You’ll study a variety of therapeutic approaches and will be able to tailor the course to your career ambitions. On completion, you’ll be able to build positive therapeutic relationships that can foster positive change for your clients, for example with people experiencing anxiety, depression and addiction.

You’ll practise your counselling and interpersonal skills using our interview and feedback rooms. Engaging with work-based learning opportunities will allow you to reflect upon how you use your practical skills in the real world. These activities will help you become a confident, globally minded and emotionally mature individual, enhancing your career prospects.
