This course is driven by the increasingly global nature of the financial services industry and the continued expansion of international trade.

You could be a management professional involved in exporting, importing and other commercial activities overseas. You might want to extend your knowledge of international trade agreements, or you could be looking to secure employment for a company with a global reach. Whatever your aspirations, this course will give you the expertise needed to unlock management opportunities with international organisations across a range of sectors.

To meet international demand for this course, we have a collaborative arrangement for delivery at a university in Hangzhou, China. If you are studying in China, you will have the option to study one semester in Leeds as part of your course.

Train to be a qualified social worker and gain a thorough grasp of the knowledge, skills and values that sit at the core of this rewarding career. Recognising the powerful links between personal and political issues, the course will assert the need to challenge inequality and safeguard vulnerable people.

In your first year, you will study the legal frameworks, policies and theories - in particular psychosocial perspectives - that underpin social work. A practice placement will offer you the chance to hone your communication skills as you start to apply your knowledge in the field.

In your second year, you will continue to extend and refine your understanding of the law. You'll also undertake a second practice placement and complete a dissertation. This course remains approved by Social Work England. This means that people qualifying from this course can apply to become a registered social worker.

You will specialise in either contemporary literature or creative writing. Taught in workshops held on weekday evenings, you will be able to fit your studies around your existing commitments.

Contemporary Literature
Specialise in researching contemporary literature. You will be introduced to a range of recent literary texts in English and develop an advanced, critical understanding of recent debates on the contemporary creative process.

You will be encouraged by expert tutors to develop your skills in close reading, creating and delivering presentations and formal discussions. Modules will explore how contemporary literary studies is a creative process, and will enable you to specialise in topics at the cutting edge of the discipline.   

Your independent project will enable you to experience the process of defining your own area of investigation and conducting in-depth research and writing.

Creative Writing
Study creative writing at an advanced level. From the outset, you will focus on developing particular expertise in the writing process, and the texts and theories you study will enhance your writing practice.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Explore criminological issues alongside a psychological focus
• Learn new ways of thinking about society while honing your understanding of people
• Engage with assumptions about the place of crime in society and our responses
• Gain an understanding of the causes and effects of crime and deviant behaviour through social research
• Use a range of psychological approaches to study human behaviour and thought to understand why people respond the way they do to crime 

Volunteering will enable you to develop your professional skills and add experience to your CV. Previous students have volunteered as learning support workers for the Leeds Youth Justice Board.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Design and detail buildings to bring ideas to life
• Enhance your understanding of working in the field through site visits and live projects
• Work on a wide range of design projects, from small domestic to large-scale commercial buildings
• Study a variety of subjects to become proficient in construction technology, materials, legislation and management
• Spend time in the design studio, using industry-standard design suites to develop and apply your skills on building design projects

Build on your existing knowledge of finance and economics with a thorough examination of international banking and investment. You will learn about banking regulations across the globe and how economic factors can affect investment growth and financial stability. You will explore theories relevant to understanding current industry practices in the UK and further afield.

You will be taught by a team of supportive tutors, and you will be able to draw on their considerable industry experience in economics and finance, which includes consultancy work with the International Monetary Fund.

Complementing the strong international dimension of this course, you could find yourself working alongside students from around the world, sharing experiences, new ideas and different ways of working.

Accredited IEng (Full)
This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation on behalf of the Engineering Council as fully satisfying the educational base for an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

The course team will help you secure work placements during the summer and your sandwich year, if you choose to take one. A placement or sandwich year will provide you with a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the workplace, which will help you apply for jobs when you graduate.
