As part of this course you’ll:

You’ll have the chance to support your learning and experience different urban and cultural environments on field trips. Working alongside students from other universities on joint fieldwork projects will enable you to develop your teamworking, communication and planning skills.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Learn to help people of all ages to manage pain and dysfunction
• Study the core areas of neuromusculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and neurological physiotherapy
• Practise thinking independently and problem solving in a clinical capacity
• Gain comprehensive hands-on experience through diverse clinical practice placements

Professional regulation
This course is accredited by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and approved by the Health & Care Professions Council and will provide you with the necessary expertise and skills to become a qualified physiotherapist.

This course will enable you to develop graduate expertise in a variety of areas. You’ll be able to identify barriers to learning and devise strategies to help individuals to thrive in an educational setting. You’ll have specific knowledge of conditions such as autism, and a critical understanding of the local, national, and international contexts of education. Your understanding of policy-based responses will enable you to operate within a complex and rapidly changing landscape.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Learn to understand the complex social conditions that drive people to commit crime and how that expert knowledge can enhance your study of criminology
• Critically analyse and challenge responses to crime in order to help shape a better society
• Study a variety of topics such as modern theories of sociology and criminology, exploring issues such as youth crime, social exclusion and how the media shapes our perceptions of crime
• Choose your own area of investigation when researching and writing your dissertation

You’ll engage with sociology and criminology equally. Through a blend of workshops, collaborative projects and observational field trips, you’ll be encouraged to drive your studies in the direction of your choosing.

Sociological projects can include creating wikis or presenting your work at a student conference. You could even see your critical essay published in our school's highly regarded sociology journal.

From landscapes and air pollution to the politics of revolution, learn about how modern history continues to shape our world.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Learn how historians look to the future based on their understanding of the past
• Expand your knowledge of social, cultural and political development from 1700 onwards
• Analyse documents including films, official records, personal narratives and letters in the context of global events
• Work directly with communities in Leeds and help uncover the city's rich history

Informed by research and led by practice, this course will see you explore contemporary three-dimensional design practice and gain a human insight into diverse design issues.

As part of your course, you'll:

• Engage in a reflective and iterative process of design development and learning through doing
• Communicate design ideas through compelling outcomes
• Develop transferable skills to work effectively as a designer in real-world settings

Innovative research methods will allow you to gain insights into user needs, economic, environmental and ethical considerations, and industry capabilities to inform your design outcomes. The importance of iterative modelling processes (making, testing and improving) will enable you to question, challenge, refine and propose appropriate design solutions that will make a positive contribution to the world around us.

This course recognises the breadth of professional and research-led opportunities within the subject area of 3D Design and supports a culture of discursive enquiry and debate. It aims to foster and nurture independent creative thinkers and will equip you with the necessary attributes to respond to the contemporary challenges undertaken by designers and researchers in the field.

You will specialise in either contemporary literature or creative writing. Taught in workshops held on weekday evenings, you will be able to fit your studies around your existing commitments.

Contemporary Literature
Specialise in researching contemporary literature. You will be introduced to a range of recent literary texts in English and develop an advanced, critical understanding of recent debates on the contemporary creative process.

You will be encouraged by expert tutors to develop your skills in close reading, creating and delivering presentations and formal discussions. Modules will explore how contemporary literary studies is a creative process, and will enable you to specialise in topics at the cutting edge of the discipline.   

Your independent project will enable you to experience the process of defining your own area of investigation and conducting in-depth research and writing.

Creative Writing
Study creative writing at an advanced level. From the outset, you will focus on developing particular expertise in the writing process, and the texts and theories you study will enhance your writing practice.

Through a combination of teaching and group work of placement experience in a variety of health and social care settings, this course will challenge your problem-solving and practical skills.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Develop the skills and knowledge to deliver occupational therapy assessments
• Devise interventions to help your clients enjoy an optimal quality of life
• Learn the soft skills, attitudes and behaviours to enable you to communicate effectively
• Develop a therapeutic relationship with the people you help
• Join a research-led academic community in the subject area of therapeutic and rehabilitation sciences

This course is accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists and is a World Federation of Occupational Therapists Approved Education Programme. Your curriculum will reflect the standards required by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will support people to manage a range of health and social challenges. These can include these can include enabling someone to go back to work following a period of depression, play sport following a head injury, or helping children with autism play games.

Develop the skills you will need to work in the expanding and diverse modern professional audio and music industries.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore the technologies and techniques used in the recording, production and reproduction of sound and music
• Fuel your creativity while expanding your theoretical knowledge
• Access industry-standard facilities, including our impressive recording studios, post-production rooms and portable recording and audio analysis devices
• Have the option to work with external clients in your final year

This course is accredited by JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) which encourages the delivery of workshops and lectures from industry professionals. A placement option and your final year project will provide you with opportunities to work with industry partners.
