Your campus sits in the very centre of the city, surrounded by museums, art galleries, theatres, film production companies and recording studios. You’ll be offered unique opportunities to gain work experience with the media, cultural and creative industries in Leeds, such as museums, art galleries, theatres, film production companies and recording studios that surround the city centre campus. You may also get involved in many regional events; for example, the Harrogate Film Festival, the Ilkley Literature Festival or the Leeds West Indian Carnival.

Build on your existing knowledge of finance and economics with a thorough examination of international banking and investment. You will learn about banking regulations across the globe and how economic factors can affect investment growth and financial stability. You will explore theories relevant to understanding current industry practices in the UK and further afield.

You will be taught by a team of supportive tutors, and you will be able to draw on their considerable industry experience in economics and finance, which includes consultancy work with the International Monetary Fund.

Complementing the strong international dimension of this course, you could find yourself working alongside students from around the world, sharing experiences, new ideas and different ways of working.

Your course is international in every sense - from the mix of students, to the backgrounds of our teaching staff to the course content itself - producing a multi-cultural learning environment to prepare you for the international employment market. Our highly-qualified and experienced teaching team also bring valuable industry backgrounds and contacts so you will benefit from an ideal blend of theory and practice.

Speech and language therapists (SLT) are privileged to work with people throughout their entire lifespan, from neonatal to end of life care.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Gain a professional qualification as an SLT in three years
• Learn to provide assessment and intervention for communication impairments and difficulties with eating, drinking and swallowing
• Study a variety of subjects such as psychology, linguistics and speech pathology
• Attend guest lectures from specialist clinicians and medics to ensure your learning is current and to expand your networks
• Experience ongoing and block placements through a mixed placement model

We adopt a mixed placement model, which means that you'll have the opportunity to experience ongoing and block placements. An ongoing placement means that you are on placement one day per week, whilst in university the remaining days. On a block placement, you’ll spend all week on placement, with no lectures during these periods. You’ll be required to travel to placements independently and these will be located throughout the Yorkshire and Humberside region.

You'll undertake ongoing and block work placements in all three years of your course. You'll also be able to make the most of course-related opportunities such as campaigning and raising awareness of people with communication difficulties, getting involved in the speech and language therapy society and volunteering in the UK and abroad. You’ll gain a wide range of clinical experiences with both children and adults

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Critically explore global issues such as security, poverty, debt and famine
• Understand how we can address the challenges faced by humanity from an international relations perspective
• Examine global inequalities, the rise of the superpower nations and what power looks like at a global level
• Understand how major developments, including the Cold War, the fall of the Berlin Wall, globalisation, changing global power relations and the emergence of new terror threats and social movements have shaped the world
• Evaluate theories of international relations and diplomacy and analyse the ideas, ideologies, policies and institutions that form the foundations of global politics
• Analyse what happens during conflict, and the challenges faced by states and world organisations trying to preserve peace and security
• Undertake a volunteering placement giving you work experience in the field
• Blend critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills

Develop your abilities to become a highly skilled music and audio producer.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Hone your skills in the creative, technical and compositional aspects of music production
• Gain a solid academic and practical base from which to develop your craft further
• Apply your knowledge to a variety of creative and industry-focused briefs and scenarios
• Understand the professional environment and how it will inform your practice
• Learn through lectures, tutorials and seminars delivered by academic staff and industry professionals
• Have the opportunity to work with other students in production teams, further enhancing your team working and project management abilities and employability opportunities

You’ll have access to software such as Logic Pro, Cubase, Adobe Audition, MAX MSP and Synthmaker. Your specialist modules might require you to use Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Unreal and other industry standard software.

This course is accredited by JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) which encourages the delivery of workshops and lectures from industry professionals. A placement option and your final year project will provide you with opportunities to work with industry partners.

Artist in Residence Programme
The Artist in Residence programme gives our students an opportunity to work with professional artists and gives them a taste of what is it like to work on a professional music project. We have welcomed artists Chris T-T, Ian Prowse, I Monster, Tom Williams and Utah Saints.

Develop the specialist skills and knowledge to enter the games, digital and creative entertainment industries.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Focus on three main areas: programming and software engineering; art, concept and asset production; and game design studies, practice and theory
• Take products from an initial idea through the design, visualisation and technical implementation stages
• Be encouraged to foster your individual creativity
• Produce games based on your ideas
• Work with other students and tutors who have a passion for games and gaming

 Placement opportunities, networking events and guest lectures from industry experts such as Disney animator Aaron Blaise and codemasters Team17 Digital and Dan Gray from UsTwoGames will enhance your awareness of the career opportunities open to you.

We are also members of industry network, Game Republic, where past students have won awards from industry judges in the Student Showcase Competition.

Final year students also have the opportunity to showcase their work in front of leading employers at the end of year degree show. You can see some of their work in the Leeds School of Arts Festival. Previous years have seen many of our students gain job offers through the showcase opportunities.
