This RICS accredited course reflects the real-world workings of the property and construction industries, preparing you for a career in property investment and development, property management or real estate management.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Develop a combination of technical knowledge and professional skills
• Study the planning, building, maintenance and day-to-day management of properties from domestic dwellings to full-scale industrial and commercial units
• Cover key topics including estate and property management; portfolio management; valuation for mortgages; negotiation for sale, purchase, leasing or auction; and the financial aspects of real estate, including the financing of real estate projects

Working closely with other built environment students, you’ll take part in projects that mirror the professional relationships you’ll experience in industry. Quantity surveyors are the cost managers of the construction industry. While studying for a recognised degree, you’ll learn how quantity surveyors organise, control and manage the costing of projects, including building economics, contracts and construction law, construction technology and project management.

Sandwich year
Our sandwich route includes a one year industry placement, enabling you to take advantage of the strong links we have with local authorities, commercial organisations and private quantity surveying practices - all of whom provide placement opportunities for our students.

Within the creative and media industries, small groups of people with strong individual talent often evolve into innovative companies. On this course, you will develop your own area of expertise and hone your ability to work creatively with like-minded professionals.

Option modules and the flexible nature of this course will enable you to develop a broad overview of creative technology while also specialising in an area of your choice. You might choose to investigate emerging 3D computer animation techniques, work on post-production special visual effects or explore innovative photographic visual effects technologies.

You will develop your specialist skills and knowledge of digital technology through the use of digital tools in our inspiring learning environments, which include a chroma-key and motion capture studio and a suite of high-quality professional music studios. These facilities combined with regular visiting speakers from the music and film industries and a range of links with local and national music, arts and festival organisations and also animation, games and visual effects companies, will ensure you get the most from your course.

You will explore varied approaches to sound practice through exposure to modern ideas and techniques in the areas of electroacoustic music, spatial sound, contemporary music thinking and sound interactivity. You will have the chance to investigate new software and hardware tools, inquire into the ideas and practical work of the most influential contemporary music thinkers, such as John Cage, Pierre Schaeffer and Brian Eno, and produce a variety of creative artefacts to begin building your own music and sound repertoire.
