This course will prepare you to take the next step in your career if:

• Your first degree is in biomedical sciences or a related subject, or
• You don’t have a degree in this field, but you have significant experience of working in a biomedical sciences laboratory setting

As part of this course you’ll:

• Develop expertise to inform and underpin your research activities, so you’ll be well placed to undertake specialist laboratory-based roles or PhD study
• Study wide-ranging topics, from immunology and haematology to medical genetics and physiology
• Be supported in your development through taught sessions and the guidance of your research supervisor
• Learn through a range of activities, including tutor-led lab sessions, independent research and group assignments

As part of your course you’ll:

• Learn more about your current artistic interests as you draw from a range of disciplines as inspiration for your project work
• Develop your passion, whether that’s for creative text writing, dance, acting or directing
• Use project work to explore your particular area of interest
• Enhance your practical performance skills and confidence in your ability to create performance work through weekly technique classes and creative workshops
• Undertake a professional placement during your second year

Leeds is home to hundreds of professional theatre collectives, dance companies and arts festivals so you’ll be surrounded by a vibrant creative community and an exciting range of performance work.

We’ll support you in setting up your second-year professional placement. You could spend a semester learning alongside and networking with one of the many artistic companies in Leeds or you could choose to travel abroad to work for an international organisation. Our students have previously completed placements at Company Chameleon in Manchester, BMotion Festival in Bassano del Grappa, Italy and with theatre company Third Angel based in Sheffield.

All of the staff teaching on your course are practising artists, which means our teaching is based on real professional experience. You’ll also have the chance to attend additional workshops delivered by external artists and companies.

As part of this course you’ll:

• Develop the scientific foundation required to undertake a PhD qualification in biomedical sciences and related areas
• Work solely on an extended research project from January to September
• Be supported by staff from our Centre for Biomedical Science Research as you develop your practical expertise to an advanced level
• Have a wide variety of research options to choose from within molecular biology, microbiology, pharmacology and biochemistry
• Gain transferable skills, including science communication and promoting yourself as a scientist, guided by staff who have featured in print, TV and on radio as biomedical science experts
• Learn from an innovative teaching team

You’ll be guided by practising writers and researchers, undertaking modules that encourage an interdisciplinary approach to understanding writing and contemporary culture.

As part of your course, you'll:

• Develop strong communication and creative thinking skills by engaging with a diverse range of disciplines
• Receive a broad foundation in creative practice and cultural studies
• Inform and develop your own creative practice by exploring poetry and the short story in more depth
• Tailor your study to suit your career aspirations through a range of option modules
• Complete a dissertation-length project
• Produce an anthology in collaboration with your fellow students, developing your entrepreneurial skills

You’ll take an interdisciplinary approach, drawing on multiple areas of research and culture to inform your creative writing practice. With a particular focus on employability, the course offers a range of specialist modules that encourage you to reflect on your skillset.

Develop the skills you will need to work in the expanding and diverse modern professional audio and music industries.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Explore the technologies and techniques used in the recording, production and reproduction of sound and music
• Fuel your creativity while expanding your theoretical knowledge
• Access industry-standard facilities, including our impressive recording studios, post-production rooms and portable recording and audio analysis devices
• Have the option to work with external clients in your final year

This course is accredited by JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) which encourages the delivery of workshops and lectures from industry professionals. A placement option and your final year project will provide you with opportunities to work with industry partners.

If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Explore a wide range of theories within psychology, mental health, counselling, child development and psychotherapy
• Combine theoretical knowledge with opportunities to work in mental health environments and develop your ability to build effective therapeutic relationships
• Study a variety of therapeutic approaches  
• Explore psychotherapeutic models including cognitive and behavioural development and look at theories on how mental health issues develop across the lifespan
• Learn how to develop your interpersonal skills in order to build counselling relationships between you and your clients 

This course is suitable for those working in mental health services wanting to further their knowledge and career, or for those wishing to enter the health and care professions. You’ll study a variety of therapeutic approaches and will be able to tailor the course to your career ambitions. On completion, you’ll be able to build positive therapeutic relationships that can foster positive change for your clients, for example with people experiencing anxiety, depression and addiction.

You’ll practise your counselling and interpersonal skills using our interview and feedback rooms. Engaging with work-based learning opportunities will allow you to reflect upon how you use your practical skills in the real world. These activities will help you become a confident, globally minded and emotionally mature individual, enhancing your career prospects.

You might choose to investigate emerging 3D computer animation techniques, work on post-production special visual effects or explore innovative photographic visual effects technologies.

You will develop your specialist skills and knowledge of digital technology through the use of digital tools in our inspiring learning environments, which include a chroma-key and motion capture studio and a suite of high-quality professional music studios.
