If you take a paid work placement in your third year, you’ll develop and enhance your employability skills.

As well as having the option to gain experience on a placement, you’ll take part in workshops and work on a consultancy project within a start-up business.

Our guest lecture series will help give you access to the enterprise expertise present in Leeds, the northern powerhouse of the region's businesses and economy. Past speakers include the CEO of the London Stock Exchange, the Chief Executive of the British Bankers Association and the Chief Economist of Yorkshire Bank.

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession which involves working with people to improve their own health and wellbeing. Learn to use physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical function on this Chartered Society of Physiotherapy approved programme.

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Develop collaborative working skills, putting them into practice working with patients, their carers and other health professionals
• Be encouraged to reflect on practice to aid your professional development
• Experience placements within a variety of health and social care settings. These could include sports clubs, schools and private clinics in specialist areas such as cardio vascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, neurology and paediatrics

You’ll have the chance to get involved with many volunteering activities, and we have partnerships with local and international charities. Plus, guest speakers from a range of clinical specialities will support your lectures and practical sessions. You'll join a research-led academic community in the subject area of therapeutic and rehabilitation sciences.

Locally, nationally and globally, young people and communities are having to deal with difficult and challenging situations. Learn the skills you need to help them, and yourself, rise to those challenges.

You’ll undertake placements in a wide variety of settings and work with individual young people, as well as with groups and the wider community. This includes young offenders, drug services, environmental agencies and outdoor education centres.

Your qualification is validated by the National Youth Agency (NYA) and recognised by the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC). These bodies endorse professional qualifications for youth and community workers.

You will specialise in either contemporary literature or creative writing. Taught in workshops held on weekday evenings, you will be able to fit your studies around your existing commitments.

Contemporary Literature
Specialise in researching contemporary literature. You will be introduced to a range of recent literary texts in English and develop an advanced, critical understanding of recent debates on the contemporary creative process.

You will be encouraged by expert tutors to develop your skills in close reading, creating and delivering presentations and formal discussions. Modules will explore how contemporary literary studies is a creative process, and will enable you to specialise in topics at the cutting edge of the discipline.   

Your independent project will enable you to experience the process of defining your own area of investigation and conducting in-depth research and writing.

Creative Writing
Study creative writing at an advanced level. From the outset, you will focus on developing particular expertise in the writing process, and the texts and theories you study will enhance your writing practice.

Whether you’re a recent graduate in a related subject, or a professional working in the field, this innovative, accredited course will allow you to investigate the latest issues and developments in housing, regeneration and urban management and join the path to becoming a Chartered Town Planner.

As part of your course you’ll:

• Develop expertise in leadership and management, community engagement and spatial planning
• Learn to appraise and implement policy while keeping a critical eye on the contemporary housing and regeneration field
• Be entitled to free student membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute and the Chartered Institute of Housing

As part of this course, you’ll:

• Gain an understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles and methodologies that underpin Civil Engineering
• Build your understanding of structures, hydraulics, geotechnical engineering, management, health, safety and welfare, surveying, materials science and sustainable development

Develop the skills to become an independent, innovative creative thinker and practitioner. You’ll enhance your portfolio and prepare for practice in the expanded field of the contemporary arts.

Our MA Fine Art will provide opportunities for you to build advanced technical and theoretical problem-solving strategies as well as advanced interpretative abilities.

As part of your course, you’ll:

• Develop your motivations, ambitions and abilities as an artist
• Explore a number of practices including painting, sculpture, print, installation, video, sound, virtual / augmented reality, performance and curating
• Work on collective projects and events that will foster your team-working skills, adaptability and resourcefulness
