In the contemporary art world, as the boundaries between fine art practices are crossed, so too are the distinctions between artist, theorist and curator. This distinctive course challenges these boundaries, offering students the opportunity to develop and expand fine art practice through a deep engagement with art historical knowledge and theoretical ideas. The course also offers a curating pathway, allowing students to explore exhibition-making in its own right and as a form of artistic practice.

The fashion landscape is evolving more rapidly than ever before and the need for sustainable and innovative fashion garments, ranges, and business models has never been more urgent. Conscious approaches to both the design and realisation of a fashion product is therefore critical.

The MA Fashion Design Technology programme is aimed at students who are ready to challenge traditional fashion industry systems and want to become the catalyst for positive change in their specialism. Technology and human-centric design are at the heart of the programme. The use of technology drives the creation of new, original products and allows for experimentation beyond material resources.

Students will have the opportunity to systematically question existing ideals in response to social, ethical, cultural and political issues. They will use innovative development methods to generate alternative, creative and experimental design outputs for both self-directed briefs and industry-led ‘live’ projects.

Graduates will be equipped to design and manufacture innovative fashion prototypes, products and ranges for specific target markets that impact positively on society and the future of the industry they are joining.

This course takes an innovative, modern approach to literature, focusing on drama, prose, fiction and poetry from the 17th century to the present – balancing the traditional with the modern.

Flexibility is key to our approach and as your course progresses you’ll be able to choose course units to suit your own particular interests, such as creative writing, film and cultural theory. Or why not focus geographically and culturally on writing from the USA, Ireland, Africa, India and the Caribbean?

Our placement route offers you the opportunity to spend your third year on an industry placement, allowing you to apply university-based knowledge, skills and understanding to the world of work, and giving you an advantage when you begin looking for your first job after graduation. Or you may have the opportunity to spend a year expanding your horizons, studying with one of our partner universities overseas. In your final year, you’ll get a chance to explore your interests in-depth with a substantial piece of project work presented in a thesis, building on the knowledge and skills you’ve been developing over previous years.

Our dedicated placement team have developed excellent links with various industries. You will be offered support through a preparation program of activities, including guidance on selection procedures, working overseas, CV preparation, interview and selection techniques.

Our BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering degree offers the chance to harness engineering principles to tackle medical issues. From start to finish, it’s a degree with a hands-on approach: with us, you’ll learn by doing. Even in the first few weeks, you’ll tackle a team-based design-and-build challenge to help you get settled into the subject. Then, at the end of each year, you’ll finish off with a major project – your chance to turn learning into action.

We have created our own multicultural community, including British, exchange and international students, along with foreign language assistants, allowing you to be absorbed into the everyday use of foreign languages.

We have been providing professional language courses for more than 30 years. Our strong local, national and global links will help to enhance your study and future employment opportunities. If you study Spanish as a major or equal subject, you will be required to spend a year abroad. The experience of being immersed in another culture for several months is one our students find both beneficial and rewarding. They return having made new friends, experienced new places and having grown in confidence.

This course places language learning within the wider context of Spanish studies including culture, society, literature, film and history. The language units emphasise communicating effectively and developing transferable skills such as translating, interpreting and interview techniques, with practical language classes embracing speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will also have the option to study Spanish from beginners level.

TESOL is a practical branch of applied linguistics and it will help you understand language learning and teaching approaches, as well as the English language itself. You will develop a new understanding of different types of communication and other cultures.

This course will help you improve your own fluency and accuracy in other languages. You will gain experience of how to help learners of all abilities to become fluent English speakers and you will be taught by highly qualified and experienced practitioners who have taught across the world. All of these skills will give you a head start if you decide to take a further qualification such as CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) or Trinity Certificate TESOL.

With our BSc (Hons) Chemistry degree, we blend laboratory study with classroom learning to ensure you graduate with a balanced understanding of the subject, from inorganic and organic chemistry, to physical and analytical chemistry.

We’ve worked to shape our curriculum around industry needs and developments, so we’ll equip you with the skills and strengths that employers want. And, while the units you’ll study provide a well-rounded understanding of the subject as a whole, you’ll also have the flexibility to focus on those areas that interest you most – developing the knowledge, experience and skills you’ll need to fulfill your professional or academic ambitions. As such, we cover a wide range of specialist areas, including physiochemical processes, materials chemistry, drug discovery, green chemistry, catalysis, computational chemical modelling, spectroscopy, and synthetic chemistry.

Our chemistry degree also provides the option of spending an extra year expanding your horizons, either studying with one of our partner universities overseas, or working on a placement in industry.

The MChem (Hons) Chemistry is an integrated four-year undergraduate masters degree that covers study areas like reactions and mechanisms, materials chemistry, drug discovery, computational chemistry and spectroscopy, chemical synthesis and physiochemical processes.

The program is a high-standard platform for a range of careers. It includes a research project unit, where you spend a year focusing on a major independent project that you design, carry out and present, alongside your other areas of study.

Illustrators work within many disciplines, and are able to visualise, elucidate and extend the meaning of a given field of knowledge or information and communicate ideas and narratives to specific audiences.

The contemporary practice of illustration is multidisciplinary, incorporating drawing, printmaking, traditional and digital media, model making, performance and collaborative, interactive practices.

The MA in Illustration is designed for creative practitioners who wish to advance their knowledge, skills and specialism within this expansive field.

Each student will develop a practice-led investigation within this broader context, actively constructing a bespoke body of design knowledge which combines theory, practice, research, entrepreneurship and innovation from a wide range of creative and research-driven activities.

They will be taught to question and expand their creative thinking and generic design process by developing their analytical skills; engaging in critical dialogues; work independently, collaboratively and interdisciplinary; experimenting in a range of directions before delivering professional and innovative outcomes to defined audiences with confidence. Public Health is a growing concern with issues such as obesity and other complex conditions requiring a need for education and specialist training across the health sector.

The MPH Global Public Health offers a foundation in public health training and exposure to global health analysis, policies, systems and practices.

We’ve designed this course for health professionals looking to develop a career in public health and epidemiology.
