You’ll develop your advanced theoretical knowledge as well as a practical understanding of all things finance. Covering key areas within financial and management accounting, taxation and business law, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the role accounting plays in successful organisations.

Build your hands-on practical accounting skills

• You’ll build your knowledge through a combination of lectures, workshops and seminars. You’ll also take part in a range of class-based discussions to further develop your skills and understanding.
• We use accounting software such as Zero, Sage and OneSource in our teaching and our state-of-the-art Financial Markets Lab will give you the hands-on experience you'll need to succeed in the profession.
• During your studies, you will have the opportunity to do a paid work placement, either as a year-long project or two shorter placements. Here you’ll get the chance to test and improve your technical skills in the real world, as well as building your soft employability skills such as communication and team work.

Biological science of the Third Millennium. encompasses and unites concepts, techniques and data from many allied sciences to provide a broader understanding of Life’s processes and interactions. The programme at Middlesex University is unique in combining a range of modules that cover a wide spectrum of biological sciences, but also integrates an emphasis on skills and experience acquisition that provides you with a valuable and marketable skill set. It is a programme for self- motivated students with a strong scientific interest who wish to develop their knowledge and practical skills in biology.

This programme builds upon a first year core of cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, and biological techniques. This allows you to focus your studies upon your own interests in your second and third years. You will be able to select from modules in a variety of disciplines related to themes in molecular biology, bioinformatics, ecology and biodiversity.

Throughout your degree you will gain biological and transferable skills necessary for a scientific career. In your final year, you will be equipped to carry out your individual research project, supervised by one of our academics with expertise in ecological, molecular, microbiological microbiological or bioinformatics research. Such research will develop your personal flexibility and creativity whilst honing organisational and project management skills. You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto our three-year media degree courses listed below. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Visual Effects

Our visual effects course gives you access to some of the best VFX facilities, studios and workshops in the country. Led by our team of experienced VFX professionals who’ve worked professionally on films including Avatar, Planet of the Apes and Happy Feet, you’ll learn the practical skills you need to succeed in the industry.

Imaginative, original and full of ideas, Creative Technology combines technical and creative skills to create the technologies of the future. At Middlesex, you'll have the opportunity to learn about and experiment with different types of technology and use them to design and build your own inventions.

• Technology has become fundamentally important to art, design and culture and the skills associated with the once-separate creative and technical worlds increasingly overlap. This is a practical course with an emphasis on collaboration and experimentation. You will benefit from your lecturers creative, academic and technical expertise, and you'll be encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and tackle something new.
• You'll work with your peers on group projects and in the past students have made an interactive cushion, immersive VR and AR environments, Hololens environments, 360 videos, projection mapping projects, locative mobile apps, novel gaming environments and, wearable tech.
• Working within the current public distancing guidelines, we will be enhancing our online teaching with access to our cutting-edge facilities such as TV, radio and sound studios, 3D workshops and workshops for high-end digital work.
• We welcome students from any background onto this course, in the past, for example, we have had journalists, artists, designers, programmers, marketing and TV executives, engineers biologists and teachers. Digital media course has been especially designed to meet the skills and demands of the fast-moving creative industries. Combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, you gain skills in areas such as new media, video production, website design, culture and more. Practice-based work includes video production (following Government safety guidelines), web design and HTML programming, data visualisation and smart environments. Great emphasis is also given to the management and analysis of social media platforms, with APIs and other sources used to present and assess social data.

You'll be taught by experienced technical tutors who know the industry inside out. They will guide through a series of modules like the compulsory Digital Media Practice module, which focuses on production methods: video, sound recording and mixing, advanced post-production, and many more. At the end of the module you'll produce a creative and adaptive piece of work that puts theory to practice.

The MA Youth Justice, Community Safety and Applied Criminology degree is designed for people working or seeking to work in the area of crime and criminal justice. It offers a detailed understanding of contemporary issues facing professionals and managers in the criminal justice system and of the changing roles and responsibilities of the agencies and practitioners which make up that system.

Delivered by leading researchers and drawing on the expertise of those currently working in the field, this degree provides both traditional academic provision in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials and the opportunity to undertake up to a third of the course via work-based learning (for those already working in appropriate contexts) or an internship with an agency such as a Youth Offending Team, a Drug and Alcohol Support Service or a Community Safety Partnership.

• The core elements of the programme are delivered on one evening per week so as to allow for those in work to attend. The remainder of the programme is made up by either studying optional modules available during the daytime or (in the case of one module) via distance learning or by a combination of a long or short dissertation and/or the long or short work-based learning or internship modules.
• This flexibility, both in the choice of content as well as in the mode of delivery/learning, allows students to tailor the course as much as possible to their own needs. This includes the option to study the programme over one year full-time or two years part-time.

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. During your studies, you’ll explore the problem of crime, its causes and consequences and to examine in-depth the workings and effectiveness of the criminal justice system. This Masters' course is designed for those wishing to embark on a career in HR/People Management and for those already in an HR position wishing to enhance their professional development. The course is accredited to Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) professional standards allowing Associate Membership of the CIPD upon graduation.

Middlesex University has been providing HR professional education, in one form or another, for over 50 years: making Middlesex (and its predecessor institutions) one of the longest established providers of HR professional education in the UK. The current MA HRM&D is the most recent incarnation of this history. The course is taught by a team of academic experts informed by research and professional practice.

This master's programme will allow you to develop your knowledge and understanding of advance Immunological concepts. In particular, the course will focus on developing the understanding of how immune system disorders arise and how immunological reagents may be used as therapeutics (immunotherapeutic). You will also gain a knowledge of a range of immunoassays and will come to understand how these may be used in the diagnosis of disease.

This programme structure in the area of Biomedical Science and Medical Immunology will provide you with the necessary framework and vocabulary in essential and advanced aspects of Immunology. Additionally you will gain knowledge in a range of analytical and technical skills that will equip you to pursue a range of career options. These may include employment within the health service, pharmaceutical industry and education, or, to proceed to further scientific training or research.

As part of this programme you will also carry out a research project with a focus on Immunology supervised by research-active experts in the area.

This course is designed for those students who have previously studied a related subject in Biomedical Science at university level or who have a basic knowledge of Immunology and are looking to develop an advanced mastery of the subject.
