This degree is the ideal sports and exercise science route for students who aspire to work with elite athletes. Learn how to plan and deliver training programmes, monitor progress and deliver feedback to coaches. Being a fully recognised profession in elite sport, almost all professional clubs now employ a minimum of one strength and conditioning coach. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to work with athletes in any sport and of any age.

Learn from noted academics who also work with professional athletes and clubs. This course will facilitate your accreditation from relevant strength and conditioning awarding bodies (NSCA and UKSCA) and provide supervised work experience with high-level athletes (for example, in professional football, rugby, and with Olympic and Paralympic athletes). Alongside designing and implementing evidence-based, sport-specific training programmes, you will master a number of exercise techniques, including Olympic lifting, speed agility and plyometrics. You will also develop research and data analysis skills, and the ability to present findings to a team.

You will gain experience as a strength and conditioning coach and scientist through our work-placement module. One of our partner organisations is Saracens Rugby Club and our facilities are housed at their nearby Barnet Copthall Stadium, home of Saracens Rugby Club, where we boast world-class performance laboratories, rehabilitation units and testing facilities. You will build invaluable industry contacts and we maintain contact with many of our graduates who have gone on to work in professional sports.

Neurophysiology skills are in short supply, and our specialist neurophysiology course equips you with the most demanded expertise, experience and skillset to make an impact as a healthcare scientist.

Through a mix of analysis, lab work and a 50 week industry placement, you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and experience to confidently investigate, diagnose, treat and monitor a range of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, strokes, dementia, nerve and muscle dysfunction and multiple sclerosis.

Our information systems degree gives you the skills, experience and expertise you need to succeed in the computer-based sector – and beyond.

You’ll get to grips with the specialist equipment, systems and technologies that will give you the experience, expertise and confidence to apply your skills (due to Covid-19, access to the specialist software may be online rather than in on-campus labs). Build your information systems skills

• You’ll have the opportunity to take a year-long, paid work experience placement as part of a four-year study path (subject to securing an organisation that is able to support such a placement during the COVID-19 pandemic). BA Business Management (Human Resources)

Develop your skills and practical experience with us
We’ve got psychology specialist laboratories and counselling practice rooms that, when available to access, will let you develop the practical skills needed to succeed in the field. You’ll be guided by teaching staff who are leading researchers in areas including health psychology, forensic psychology and qualitative research. Even in eventualities where we are unable to be in the laboratory or classroom together, we aim to use virtual tools to help you develop key practical skills.

Between the second and third years of study, you'll be encouraged to undertake an expenses-based year-long work placement. This will give you the chance to apply your knowledge, develop practical skills, and boost the chances of employment after you graduate. A range of established organisations are involved with our placement course, including Great Ormond Hospital School, St Georges Hospital, Priory Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, Institute of Education, University College London, Holloway Prison, and the Metropolitan Police. Cellular pathology is the study of structural and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs that underlie disease. It is a dynamic, fast-evolving specialism which saves many lives by providing rational clinical care and therapy in the fight against many serious diseases, particularly cancer.

This course has a strong practical element, with an emphasis on developing the skills needed in a laboratory and gaining hands-on experience of diagnostic techniques. You will be able to study and learn within the University's specialist laboratories which include a modern, well-equipped cell culture facility and fully-equipped proteomics facilities. You'll also learn to use cutting-edge techniques and equipment for cellular and molecular analysis, such as MALDI-TOF mass spectrometers and flow cytometers, DNA sequencing, real-time PCR, electrophoresis and HPLC.

The equipment you can use includes the UK’s most advanced 3D motion analysis equipment and a DXA scanning body composition machine, plus many more.

Supporting athletes to perform
During this course you’ll develop the skills needed to support athletes to perform at their peak while reducing the risk of injury. You’ll develop your understanding of biomechanical and physiological theories, as well as your psychological skills.

You’ll integrate professional practice into your studies as you complete 50 hours of placements every year. This is a crucial opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge by working with athletes. The availability of placements is subject to cooperating organisations and we are working closely with our partners to ensure we have as many available as possible even during COVID-19. Due to COVID-19, the total number of placement hours required to pass the module may be altered under the guidance of the Accredited Professional Bodies or the University where applicable.
