On our MA in Fine Art you will explore the creative, cultural, political and social questions of art practice. The course offers the opportunity to further your knowledge and skills by undertaking a systematic and comprehensive major body of work. Environmental health is the branch of public health concerned with how our living, working and leisure environments affect our health. It's a gripping subject to study and a fascinating field to work in. Middlesex University is the largest and foremost provider of environmental health education in the UK. This course is highly work-focused, with a strong emphasis on practical laboratory work and real-life case studies and you'll be able to take advantage of our close links within the industry.

The course is centred on UK law and practice, but is designed to be flexible and provide education and training that will be valuable internationally. Our practice and research-based course will challenge you to explore, question and evolve as a photographer. The course provides you with a creative and energetic working environment in which to produce a major photographic project using some of the best traditional and state-of-the-art facilities in the UK, encouraged and supported by world-class academic and technical staff.

At Middlesex, our practice-led approach to photography ensures you spend your postgraduate studies fully immersed in both making work and thinking about its connections with wider photographic discourse. Through a series of photographic projects, or a single large project, you will experiment with both new and traditional photography and whether behind a camera, in post-production or reflecting critically on your practice, you will be thoroughly supported by a staff team of research-active, photography practitioners. Access to diverse range of professional photographers, guest lecturers and technical advisers, will further enhance both your knowledge and skills of photography, as well as your exposure to the wider industry.

The Foundation Year in Economics is taught by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses and you are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures. You will be able to develop transferable skills in business, communication and problem-solving.

BSc Economics

Develop your skills and practical experience with us
We’ve got psychology specialist laboratories and counselling practice rooms that, when available to access, will let you develop the practical skills needed to succeed in the field. You’ll be guided by teaching staff who are leading researchers in areas including health psychology, forensic psychology and qualitative research. Even in eventualities where we are unable to be in the laboratory or classroom together, we aim to use virtual tools to help you develop key practical skills.

Between the second and third years of study, you'll be encouraged to undertake an expenses-based year-long work placement. This will give you the chance to apply your knowledge, develop practical skills, and boost the chances of employment after you graduate. A range of established organisations are involved with our placement course, including Great Ormond Hospital School, St Georges Hospital, Priory Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, Institute of Education, University College London, Holloway Prison, and the Metropolitan Police. The availability of placements is subject to the co-operating organisation, and we are working closely with our partners to make as many as possible available even during the pandemic. You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto our three-year media degree courses listed below. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Digital Media and Communications

Combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, you gain skills in areas such as new media, video production, website design, culture and more. Practice-based work includes video production (following Government safety guidelines), web design and HTML programming, data visualisation and smart environments. Great emphasis is also given to the management and analysis of social media platforms, with APIs and other sources used to present and assess social data.

Visual communication through graphic design touches and shapes many aspects of modern life. From mobile apps and interactive posters to pop-up shows and global branding – graphic design is everywhere. Project work will feature as part of your study from the first year to help you learn to communicate your ideas. You’ll do this through a series of problem-solving tasks in branding, typography, magazine design, editorial design, advertising, art direction, and plenty more. You’ll work on briefs that closely mirror the professional world, getting transferable experience from the very start.

The basis for a wide range of computer-based careers, computer science studies opens up opportunities across all sectors – from software development to systems engineering and everywhere in between. You’ll gain an understanding of the key principles of computer science while you develop your programming, system engineering, and project experience skills. Our social work degree – which is fully accredited by the Social Work England (SWE) – has been designed and revised to give you the knowledge and professional skills to succeed in the field of social work. Through a mix of teaching sessions, interactive workshops and e-learning resources, you’ll familiarise yourself with the most current policies and practices, and build the skills and knowledge to collaborate confidently and effectively with a range of service providers, service users and their carers.

As part of this course, you'll learn during workshops, tutorials and discussions, as well as writing reports, presentations and working as part of groups. You'll reflect on what you learn in your journal, and work towards your final year project where you research an area you are really passionate about.

A huge part of this course includes learning on the job during a work placement. Over the course of two placements, you will get to grips with what it's actually like to do the job of a social worker. Embedded in organisations where you will undertake statutory tasks (local authorities and independent fostering agencies for example), you will learn what you need to know to succeed in your career.
