This BA has been designed to get you into the diverse film industry, bringing together both theoretical and practical learning.

You’ll be following in the footsteps of a long list of decorated alumni, the likes of which have gone on to work on the latest Star Wars productions, for Disney, the BBC, set up their own companies and continued their studies at the National Film and Television School.

Across the three years, you’ll learn about the complete film-making process, covering a range of production roles, conception and development, post-production, script writing, cinematography, and direction, taught by professionals working in the film industry.

The banking and finance industry has become a major end-user and even a major driver of technological innovation, such as machine learning, big data analysis and algorithm trading. This course uniquely combines theory and applications of finance, economics, quantitative methods, and big data analysis to allow you to increase your career opportunities in this fast paced field.

The MSc Banking and Finance is an academically solid programme that provides the foundations of a career in financial services, and in the banking industry. This course has an emphasis on relevant and prominent issues for the sector such as financial regulation, risk management, international systems, banking institutions and securities markets.

The programme covers all aspects of the industry from macroeconomic and corporate to regulatory, computational and quantitative. Advanced skills preparation in financial modelling, econometrics, and quantitative risk management will prepare you for the practical requirements of your profession. You can also choose what you study with optional modules covering accounting and corporate finance, big data analysis, and FinTech.

You'll be taught by academics who are currently involved in pioneering research in areas such as portfolio management, corporate finance and ethics in finance. Many have also been practitioners with organisations such as Standard & Poor's and The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This BA is an independent, studio-based programme which looks specifically at illustration as professional practice. Learn to challenge the boundaries of illustration in a creative studio environment with your peers, and discover where you can make a difference in the exciting world of illustration. You will have extensive access to some of the best workshop facilities in the country, including print processes such as etching, lithography, silkscreen, lino and monoprint, as well as a letterpress workshop and digital and traditional photographic studios and darkrooms.

We have an excellent record of success in international competitions. Past students have achieved many D&AD gold awards in a number of categories such as, Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation and Interactive design. We have also been shortlisted in the Macmillan Children’s Book Prize for many years, first prize in the 2012 Observer/Jonathan Cape/Comica Award, joint runner up in the Threadneedle Prize at Mall Galleries, and nominated for the Penguin Book cover prize.

We have strong links with the illustration industry, from publishers, illustration agents, and practising illustrators to graphic and packaging designers, magazine editors, App and Games Design.  As part of the course, you will enter international creative industry competitions and tackle many live briefs. Most recently students have produced a graphic novel and an online graphic novel for two museums and work for the BBC iWonder website and all year groups get to participate in an annual central London exhibition.

Gain specialist illustration skills

We ensure that you graduate from our course with the specialist skills you’ll need to approach agents, set up studios, and produce a website as you start on your career path. Many of our students go on to work in magazine publishing, editorial illustration, advertising, animation, and more. We have strong industry links with art and design employers. Industry partners sponsor final students as well as give visiting lectures while hundreds of agencies and organisations attend the final degree show each year.

Our course is unique in that as soon as possible, we will provide you with an individual workspace that you can treat as your own studio throughout your studies. Previous students have told us that this helped them with feeling creatively fulfilled. As part of your blended learning, you will also have access to our amazing workshops as illustration students often use the printmaking and digital media workshops, laser cutting and photographic studios.

In your second and third year, you'll have the opportunity to enter Creative Industry competitions such as the Macmillan's Children's Book Prize. Past graduates have won many yellow pencils in the D&AD while others have been shortlisted for the Folio Society and Macmillan children’s book prize.

Our strength and conditioning course is the ideal route into the booming sports industry. We'll equip you with the specialist skillset, self-discipline, experience and valuable industry contacts to help you find success. You’ll follow in the footsteps of graduates who have won Olympic medals and are now making an impact for organisations including Nike and Brentford FC.

Guided by tutors who are active sports professionals, you’ll gain an expert understanding of sport and exercise theory. Here, you’ll learn what it takes to push athletes to their peak potential and develop strength and conditioning programmes for sportspeople who are at the top of their profession.

Develop your conditioning skills

• Using our modern facilities, you’ll get to grips with everything from performance analysis and rehabilitation to strength and conditioning and physical development.
• You’ll spend 50 hours each year gaining hands-on experience and developing your professional experience through work experience placements in the industry.
• Our partnerships with professional sports teams such as Tottenham Hotspur and Saracens Rugby Club means you’ll be able to build valuable professional contacts while you study.
• Due to Covid-19 we are following guidance from BASRaT and Public Health England regarding SSR’s contact with their colleagues during the teaching of practical based skills, this includes full PPE to ensure the safety of all staff and students.
• In eventualities where we are unable to be face to face in the laboratory or classroom or other practical clinical settings, we aim to use virtual tools to help you develop key practical skills.
• The availability of placements is subject to the co-operating organisation, and we are working closely with our partners to ensure that as many as possible are available although this may be affected by the pandemic.  In the event that placement hours cannot be completed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we will encourage students to complete relevant online CPD courses to enhance their learning which can be used towards their portfolio instead.

The Foundation Year in Business is taught by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses and you are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures. You will be able to develop transferable skills in business, communication and problem-solving.

BA Business Management (Human Resources)

If you want to learn how businesses work and how to manage people, then this is the degree for you. You’ll learn about the theory and practice of how businesses operate and what their environments are like. You’ll also study a variety of management styles, alongside the law and practices related to managing people.

You’ll be supported by a team of tutors who have industry experience. You will be exposed to key HR practices such as hiring practices, HR law, the ethics of employment and other abilities you'll need during your career.

A topic of global importance since the late 1980's, 'sustainable development' refers to "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (Brundtland Report, 1987). It encompasses responsible utilisation of environmental resources and the establishment of social and economic relations which enable that. Sustainable development is at the heart of global policies such as Agenda 21, which emerged from the UN Earth Summit in 1992 and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals enshrined in a UN resolution since 2015.

Quality of governance is increasingly recognised as central to sustainable development, which requires achieving just and legitimate outcomes in major global socio-economic and environmental issues such as poverty, climate change, food security and biodiversity loss.

As sustainable development now constitutes a significant global policy goal,  intergovernmental, and governmental agencies, as well as private sector companies urgently need  professionals that possess the kind of knowledge and skills required to ensure that it is enacted in practice.  This master's degree aims to provide you with the analytical skills and enhance your knowledge with respect to global governance issues, approaches and instruments so that you can become such a professional.

You will explore various approaches to how intergovernmental and national strategies, policies and projects pertaining to these global governance issues are formulated, implemented and evaluated. The critical case study approach used in teaching will enable you to develop the skills required for working in the private sector or with global and national public or third sector agencies leading and managing change in a global environment.

You will have an opportunity to apply to gain work experience through two different work placement modules offered as options through the programme. One short term-time placement option undertaken in any London based work place and another longer option that may replace the research dissertation and can be taken over the summer period, in any organisation in the UK or abroad. Both placements are secured by the student, with support from our Careers Services and staff.

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. This means that during your time studying you’ll gain an understanding of the criminal justice system and the different career paths you might want to pursue after graduation. We’re the only undergraduate degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). By studying with us you’ll get access to specialist teaching and learning spaces, including a food inspection laboratory and a Grade 2 microbiology laboratory.

Our guest lectures and industry links will give you the opportunity to further enhance your knowledge of areas including practical food inspection, food safety, health and safety, and private sector housing.

Once you’ve completed your environmental health course, CIEH learning portfolio and professional interview, you’ll gain a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB), which means you’ll be qualified as an Environmental Health Officer.

As well as gaining an in-depth knowledge of the subject, you will also gain the ability to investigate environmental health issues in a range of contexts and apply your knowledge of environmental health stressors to solve complex problems. You will be able to interpret data and design novel solutions to environmental health issues, as well as performing practical food inspections. You will gain effective communication and leadership in Environmental Health settings and develop academic research strategies and critical writing.
