Biological science of the Third Millennium. encompasses and unites concepts, techniques and data from many allied sciences to provide a broader understanding of Life’s processes and interactions. This programme builds upon a first year core of cell biology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, evolutionary biology, and biological techniques. This allows you to focus your studies upon your own interests in your second and third years. You will be able to select from modules in a variety of disciplines related to themes in molecular biology, bioinformatics, ecology and biodiversity.

Throughout your degree you will gain biological and transferable skills necessary for a scientific career. In your final year, you will be equipped to carry out your individual research project, supervised by one of our academics with expertise in ecological, molecular, microbiological microbiological or bioinformatics research. Practice your hands-on skills with us
We strongly encourage you to develop your employability skills throughout the course and this is often built into the modules from the start. These skills, sometimes referred to as soft skills, include reflection, professional development and team work.

You’ll receive a Placement Planning Pack to help with structuring and planning for work experience, ensuring you get the most out of it. Additionally, you’ll undertake a practitioner-based module, set within a workplace, and build a digital portfolio that showcases the development of your knowledge and skills throughout the course. The course’s timetable is specifically arranged to give you the opportunity to arrange voluntary or paid work experience, or shorter placements. Typically, graduates go on to careers in educational settings, training programmes, and charities. It's also a route into a teaching role through a Primary or Senior PGCE.

The Foundation Year in Economics is taught by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses and you are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures. You will be able to develop transferable skills in business, communication and problem-solving.

BSc Business Economics

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto our three-year media degree courses listed below. BA Games Design

On this hands on course, you'll be making games with a mix of digital and paper prototyping and planning from week one. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will help you build your portfolio that will set you up for a successful career in a range of creative industries.

The games industry is complex, diverse and spans a variety of old and new technologies from print to computer software to 3D printed game pieces. This BA gives you the transferable skills and knowledge you need to become a successful games designer in this fast-changing industry.

Interior design courses are rapidly growing in demand. Interior design is a vital part of our everyday environment, from office lobbies and restaurants to hotels and government buildings. Our course aims to equip you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you’ll need to start your career in interior design. You’ll learn all about different interior styles, what is meant by ‘placemaking’, challenge your creativity, and explore the diverse interdisciplinary nature of the subject.

Our visual effects course gives you access to some of the best VFX facilities, studios and workshops in the country. Led by our team of experienced VFX professionals who’ve worked professionally on films including Avatar, Planet of the Apes and Happy Feet, you’ll learn the practical skills you need to succeed in the industry.

• You’ll master the professional-standard software and equipment – and put your skills into practice with a variety of hands-on experiences. You’ll collaborate with students from our Film, TV Production and 3D Animation courses to see how visual effects plays a key role across a variety of platforms. You can also enhance your employability skills with a range of work placements opportunities. VFX graduates have gone on to secure roles as matchmove artists, rotoscope artists, modellers, texture artists, and junior compositors.

Build your hands-on visual effects skills

• We’ve got some of the best facilities, studios and workshops available. You’ll learn to use professional-standard equipment in our digital media, VFX and motion capture studios, and have access to the latest computer hardware and software, including professional level graphics workstations.
• During lock-down conditions students will be able to access school computers using remote desktop software from home. All you will need is a computer with an internet connection.  Students without computers at home may borrow laptops from the university.
• Our industry guest lecturers, networking opportunities, and client-designed briefs allow you to learn how to enter the field and work experience placements.
• You’ll have the option to spend your third year building your hands-on experience as part of an industry placement. Students must seek out and secure their own placements. You’ll also receive credit that reflects your ability in the field to give you a competitive edge. Our VFX graduates have pursued exciting careers with television companies, broadcasting organisations, film studios, independent production houses, online streaming services and specialist VFX studios.

Our sociology BA teaches you essential hands-on skills while you develop the research ability and theoretical knowledge that allows you to understand the effects of social issues on society.
