Delivering project management skills

During your course you’ll study project management using software applications. You’ll gain the knowledge and capability to use these tools in a dynamic environment. You’ll learn to use Microsoft Project, SAP, and a host of other software that helps you to manage and control projects.

You’ll also learn about the key functions of a successful business – strategy development, management styles, business resourcing and more.

You’ll take part in group projects, talking to project managers who work on live projects so you can understand more about the role in business. You’ll also have guest speakers and coursework based on ongoing projects in a range of industries.

Often known as the science of uncertainty, statistics is of vital importance in modern society where almost all sectors rely on the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. There is a great shortage of well qualified statisticians, data analysts and statistical consultants across the sector and this course has been specifically designed to meet that demand.

Applied statistics involves putting theory into practice - not only summarising and describing data, but extrapolating from it to draw conclusions about the population being studied. This is an applied, practically-orientated course that gives you advanced knowledge of statistical methods and the theory that underpins these methods. With a strong emphasis on relating theory to practice, you will develop your analytical, logical, numerical and problem-solving, skills that are in such high demand with employers.

Middlesex is one of only four institutions in the UK which has been approved as a mirror for the statistical programming language R – meaning you will have access to software used in the industry. You'll also learn how to use standard statistical software like SPSS and Minitab.

International politics has never been so relevant to our daily lives, which means that our BA in International Politics and Law will open up opportunities in all areas of this diverse and dynamic field, from public service, and international relations to regional organisations, NGOs, diplomacy, the media, and everything in between.

We’re the only undergraduate degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). By studying with us you’ll get access to specialist teaching and learning spaces, including a food inspection laboratory and a Grade 2 microbiology laboratory.

Our guest lectures and industry links will give you the opportunity to further enhance your knowledge of areas including practical food inspection, food safety, health and safety, and private sector housing.

Once you’ve completed your environmental health course, CIEH learning portfolio and professional interview, you’ll gain a Certificate of Registration from the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB), which means you’ll be qualified as an Environmental Health Officer.

As well as gaining an in-depth knowledge of the subject, you will also gain the ability to investigate environmental health issues in a range of contexts and apply your knowledge of environmental health stressors to solve complex problems. You will be able to interpret data and design novel solutions to environmental health issues, as well as performing practical food inspections. This midwifery degree takes place in our partner NHS hospitals, including London’s leading maternity units. Because the course has been developed in partnership with local NHS trusts, we’re able to offer you placements on different maternity wards. Your time studying will be equally dedicated to theory and practice.

All our teaching staff have professional career experience as midwives while many are actively involved in practice in the UK and overseas. You’ll study key modules including anatomy, physiology/pathophysiology, cultural and psychosocial issues, plus many more, to meet Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for proficiency for midwifery.

You’ll have access to state-of-the-art facilities during your studies. These include a midwifery skills lab, housed in a separate building, where a range of high-fidelity simulations are set up in areas like resuscitation and dealing with complex care needs.

Once you graduate, you’ll have a lot of career opportunities available. Your skills will be in high demand in settings like the labour and antenatal wards, private practices, as well as within communities, local clinics, and GP surgeries.

How you’ll practice your skills

• Our degree will ensure you get extensive practice while you study. Clinical practice weeks will require you to work shifts and experience the 24-hour, seven-day care to develop your understanding of women’s and babies’ needs throughout a 24-hour period. Your caseload will be purposefully small so you’re able to practice proficiency and continuity while being supported by a mentor.
• Your degree will be made up of 50% practice, and many of our graduates get their first job in their placement locations. Practice hospitals include Whittington Hospital, North Middlesex Hospital, and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
• This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to meet the highest standard of healthcare training. You’ll gain the status of a registered midwife when you graduate.

If you want to learn how businesses work and how to manage people, then this is the degree for you. You’ll learn about the theory and practice of how businesses operate and what their environments are like. You’ll also study a variety of management styles, alongside the law and practices related to managing people.

You’ll be supported by a team of tutors who have industry experience. You will be exposed to key HR practices such as hiring practices, HR law, the ethics of employment and other abilities you'll need during your career.

You’ll undertake a work placement so you can apply your skills to a live work setting. Using our industry connections, we'll help you find a role in the HR team of a top company, in an industry relevant to your interests. You can do this over the course of a year or over two summers. As our lives become increasingly digitised the scope and potential impact of cybercrime is becoming ever broader. In both the business and personal worlds, cyber criminals have the ability to cause considerable harm from remote locations, with numerous industry reports* estimating that the global cost of cybercrime has grown to rival that of the illegal drugs trade. From financial theft to child abuse, cybercrime can take many forms, and the need for skilled professionals capable of tackling these problems will only grow as smart, connected devices increasingly become the norm.

This master's degree is designed to provide you with an understanding of the criminological, legal and research context of cybercrime. Furthermore, it aims to equip you with an understanding of computing skills and capabilities that will help to respond to online threats to personal information as well as to organisational environments.
