Telecommunications engineering is a combination of electrical engineering and computer science. It covers the design, installation and maintenance of networks and equipment, allowing for the interconnectivity of devices and people. It's one of the world's most rapidly developing industries and this course has been designed to meet the growing demand for skilled graduates.

This course provides a thorough understanding of modern and future communication systems and offers the opportunity to develop relevant practical and theoretical knowledge necessary to be at the forefront of the rapidly evolving telecommunications sector where the demand for skilled graduates is very high.

Our strong links with industry have allowed us to develop a practically focused course, which is essential to the needs of the rapidly changing telecommunications industry. We work with companies such as Microsoft and Siemens, and we are a Cisco local academy – meaning you will have access to the latest equipment, and can make use of specialist teaching materials and workshops. The department is very active in cutting-edge research and you will be encouraged to learn, explore and work within our award-winning technology centre and telecoms laboratories. The labs are equipped with specialist hardware from National Instruments (NI), including the industry standard NI- USRP reconfigurable radio platform, and software such as MATLAB & Simulink, Cisco Packet Tracer, Riverbed Modeller, and EDX Signal Pro. Access to campus-based facilities will depend on Covid-19 related restrictions in place at the time. In some instances remote access to campus facilities or equivalent online facilities may be used instead.

If you're not already in work, you'll have the option of doing a placement for up to 12 weeks, during which you'll work on your independent final project. We are very closely linked to our alumni students who have been employed in the UK and abroad with companies like BT, Amelco Ltd, Alcatel-Lucent, ZS Associates, Symphony Teleca, and F5 Networks. Placements will be dependent on employer availability taking into account any Covid-19 related restrictions.

The Foundation Year in Business is taught by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses and you are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures. You will be able to develop transferable skills in business, communication and problem-solving.

BA International Tourism Management (Spanish)

Our innovative international tourism course combines theory with practice – with a focus on the latest global trends and developments in international tourism – and a career-enhancing opportunity to learn the fourth widest spoken language in the world.

We have a dedicated International Tourism Industry and Employability module which is delivered by a colleague with extensive managerial experience in the hotel sector. This emphasises the importance we place on employability right from the beginning of the first year.

Our BA Television and Digital Production has been developed with industry experts to give you one of the most practical and career-focused television production degrees in the UK. Taught in combination with direct, remote and streamed access to our state-of-the-art television studio, industry standard Avid editing suites and top of the range equipment, you’ll get to grips with everything you need to know about broadcasting, streaming, and video on demand. You’ll also learn to write scripts and develop formats as you get hands-on experience of designing a range of programmes, from sitcoms, dramas and documentaries to game shows, children’s television, chat shows and everything in between.

You’ll get the support you need to succeed in your studies and join the next generation of studio and location directors, producers, camera operators, sound and lighting technicians, editors, researchers and production managers. Hospitality and tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors globally and events management is a dynamic growth area characterised by innovation and providing business opportunities at various scales. The  UK events industry alone is worth £42 billion and inbound business visits to Britain equate to 23.5% of all visits. Along with a predicted shortfall of personnel in the industry, especially at management level, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to thrive.

This course combines specialist knowledge with the context of tourism in the global economy and provides a range of contemporary options taught by staff with recent practical experience in the industry. You will gain direct experience of the sector through the practicum module and enterprise module.

The module content is directly influenced by contemporary industry trends meaning that you will always be learning the most up-to-date theories and methods. You will be able to take a variety of optional modules from digital marketing to tourism and development and entrepreneurship in tourism

The programme also has a strong focus on employability which includes developing communication skills, independent thinking and the ability to problem solve and innovate. Our design engineering degree gives you the hands-on skills and project experience you need to gain a competitive edge in both the industrial and commercial fields of design engineering. With the option to study a three-year BEng, or a four-year MEng, our design engineering course gives you the skills, the knowledge, and the hands-on experience to put you at the forefront of the next generation of design engineers.

From your second year, you’ll have the option to carry on with your design engineering degree or transfer to a specialist robotics, electronics or mechatronics programme. If you’re applying for our four-year MEng course, you’ll also gain your masters qualification as soon as you successfully finish your undergraduate study.

Cardiac physiologists record and analyse physiological data to diagnose and treat cardiac disease. They play an essential role in healthcare, saving many lives and improving many more. Cardiac physiologists in hospitals deal with patients first-hand, meaning they need not only highly specialised knowledge and excellent analytical abilities but good people skills.

Our biomedical and biological science courses have a burgeoning international reputation, due to our world-class research in areas including biomarkers, public health and biomodelling. The university is home to the Centre for Investigative and Diagnostic Oncology, which has pioneered techniques for cancer diagnosis and treatment, including our breakthrough in the development of a vaccine for bladder cancer.

Physiology is a scientific discipline that’s essential to medical practice and human health. Our degree will give you a theoretical understanding of bodily functions, from cells and tissues through to organ systems. You’ll be taught by a dedicated team of academics and clinical practitioners, using a wide range of learning styles. The course will focus on the diagnosis of disease, assessment of human fitness, and performance under difficult environmental conditions.

You’ll also learn a wide range of analytical techniques that are most often used in clinical settings and in research on body functions. Additionally, you’ll develop the skills to record and securely store data sets – all transferable skills employers are looking for.

Our specialist Hatchcroft Building is outfitted with cutting-edge facilities and you’ll have access to all the labs and equipment there. You’ll get the experience of working with the latest industry equipment from the very start.

How you’ll practice your skills

• Using specialist equipment, you’ll have the chance to investigate and record electrical brain activity, monitor nerve pathways, and rhythm, rate, and functioning of the heart. Our expert tutors will be on hand to guide you through the process while helping you to develop technical and soft skills. You’ll also get the experience of designing your very own research experiments.
• External specialists from related industries frequently visit our campus to give talks. We have excellent relationships with prestigious NHS trusts, such as Guy’s and St Thomas’, UCLH, College Hospital, and many more. We use these relationships to help you secure placements and gain exposure to the industry. We also give you the opportunity to take an optional placement year.
• Past graduates from this course have gone on to roles like applied physiologist, exercise physiologist, clinical scientist, and many others. You can look forward to joining the armed forces, the NHS, research centres and pharmaceutical companies as the skills you’ll gain will be highly in demand.
