This degree is designed to provide you with an in-depth understanding of crime and criminal justice at national and international levels. It promotes a critical and comparative approach to crime and justice issues intended to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to deal with a range of traditional and non-traditional crime, justice and deviancy issues.

The course looks at contemporary problems such as terrorism and the priorities of global policing, human rights and justice, environmental justice and transnational crime. The international and transnational dimension of crime is an integral part of the programme.

Criminology at Middlesex has a particularly strong international reputation. The Department was pioneering in an in?uential strand of criminology called 'left realism', and established one of the very ?rst courses of its kind in the UK, which is still considered to be one of the leading postgraduate criminology courses.

Our academic staff are involved in developing groundbreaking work, recently in areas such as sex offenders' use of the internet and online child safety (Dr Elena Martellozzo) and Environmental and Wildlife Crime (Dr Angus Nurse). Across the Department, our research incorporates crime, policing, community safety, green criminology, justice and victimisation, and broader ?elds of con?ict, social movements, international con?icts, political violence and terrorism. As our lives become increasingly digitised the scope and potential impact of cybercrime is becoming ever broader. In both the business and personal worlds, cyber criminals have the ability to cause considerable harm from remote locations, with numerous industry reports* estimating that the global cost of cybercrime has grown to rival that of the illegal drugs trade. From financial theft to child abuse, cybercrime can take many forms, and the need for skilled professionals capable of tackling these problems will only grow as smart, connected devices increasingly become the norm.

This master's degree is designed to provide you with an understanding of the criminological, legal and research context of cybercrime. Furthermore, it aims to equip you with an understanding of computing skills and capabilities that will help to respond to online threats to personal information as well as to organisational environments.

Among them is Dr Elena Martellozzo, who is currently co-leading a project on the use of online pornography funded by the NSPCC and the OCC and has recently worked with the Metropolitan Police to advance internet investigators' performance through the understanding of children and sex offenders' online activities.

It's a fascinating subject as identifying dangerous microbes, stopping their spread and treating their effects is vital and often life-saving work. This is a particularly pertinent subject to consider studying in light of the global pandemic and prospective diseases and zoonosis that are increasingly prevalent.

This course has a strong practical element, with an emphasis on developing the skills needed in a laboratory and gaining hands-on experience of diagnostic techniques. You will be able to study and learn within the University's specialist laboratories which include a microbiology lab, a modern, well-equipped cell culture facility and cutting-edge equipment such as MALDI-TOF mass spectrometers and flow cytometers.

The Biomedical Science courses at Middlesex have a burgeoning international reputation and the University's strong links with London hospital laboratories and Public Health England ensures that you will be studying the latest developments, practices and research. If you do not wish to study the full MSc, you can apply to the PGDip where you study only eight modules, omitting the Dissertation, or a PGCert where you study only four modules.

You’ll have the flexibility to study this course at our London, Leeds, and Huntingdon (Cambridgeshire) campuses.

Our course is run in collaboration with the College of Animal Welfare, which means you’ll be taught by one of the UK's largest veterinary nurse training providers.

You’ll spend 50% of your study time gaining valuable professional experience and putting theory into practice at a veterinary practice.

Once you’ve finished your course, you’ll be able to apply to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse with full accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. This will not only open up employment opportunities in general veterinary practices but also in places such as research laboratories, zoos, wildlife parks, universities, charities and pharmaceutical companies.

This three-year apprenticeship programme is ideal to for apprentices employed within local trusts, or healthcare organisations who wish to undertake the BSc Healthcare Science (Cardiac Physiology) and are supported by an employer to undertake the course as an Apprentice.

This BSc apprenticeship will be delivered across each academic year in designated periods of placement learning and study blocks. This model allows the apprentice to gain the advantages of the University resources and support processes, become integrated as a Middlesex University student, and develop a sense of belonging and cohort identity. Placement periods are assessed within their own area of employment according to the National School of Healthcare Science programme requirements.

The modules are delivered through attendance at University, independent study days and a range of planned placement experiences. As students they will be employed within local Trusts or Healthcare organisations as Cardiac Physiologist Degree Apprentices (CPDAs). In order to meet the National School of Healthcare Science requirements, the apprentice will complete planned practice placements within their place of work.

The apprentice will have access to My Learning at module and programme level, and all resources provided within it. These resources allow them to undertake the required pre and post sessional work within each module.

Whilst in practice, the apprentice's learning and assessment are supported and assessed by an identified mentor, who have prepared for the role by the University, for learning and assessment in practice. A range of practice learning experiences are planned in line with National School of Healthcare Science requirements.

This course is accredited by the National School of Healthcare Science.
