Build your electronic engineering skills
Electronic engineering has a visible impact on modern life - from smartphones to smart cars, and everything in between. You will design and build complex electronic circuits and systems-on-a-chip using a range of methods and software tools, applying a systems engineering approach to problem-solving, opening up career opportunities wherever automation is involved.

Led by our team of industry experts in high-tech labs, you’ll learn the specialist skills you need to succeed in a variety of roles that range from wireless and digital design and network design to network planning, mobile internet applications and services development.

• There are two honours degree programmes available for each area of study – a three-year Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and a four-year Master of Engineering (MEng).
• Both degrees share a common first year, but due to the advanced nature of the MEng programme students must demonstrate they have the high-level knowledge and skills required at the end of year 2 and 3 to progress on the programme.
• You must apply direct to either the BEng or the MEng, but you can also choose to change programme. You must apply for the MEng in Year 1 if you want to guarantee your student loan will cover the fourth year of fees.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Sociology

Our sociology BA teaches you essential hands-on skills while you develop the research ability and theoretical knowledge that allows you to understand the effects of social issues on society. Our sociology courses are taught within an interdisciplinary department of our School of Law, bringing you in contact with some of the leading scholars in the industry.

To study criminology is to embark on a fascinating journey exploring the problem of crime. Learn about its causes and consequences, and investigating how society does and should respond to criminal behaviour in all its forms.
This degree provides an in-depth exploration of crime, criminals, victims and interaction with the Criminal Justice System. It's been designed for those who have an interest in how society responds to deviant behaviour and challenges the concept of social deviancy.

You'll focus on the theoretical concepts and approaches in criminology and their application to contemporary life through studying the impact of social divisions in minorities based on their experiences, interpretations, and representations of crime and criminal justice.

You'll be taught by staff currently involved in researching key issues related to crime and justice, and the findings of their research will influence your learning and research skills. As such, you'll learn to understand the factors that influence criminological research, policy and practice, and learn the fundamental skills of research and analysis.

This course is ideal if you're interested in how society responds to criminal behaviour and the challenges that this provides. Blending theory with practice, you’ll develop your knowledge by exploring key issues related to crime and justice before testing that knowledge through placements (when possible) within criminology-focused organisations and projects.

Your degree will focus on key elements of criminology and sociology including crime and control, social sciences, justice and punishment, and forensic skills. During the course, you'll study two compulsory modules designed to advance your skills and knowledge in topics fundamental to managerial decision making. The Entrepreneurship and Small Business module provides an excellent foundation for setting up and running your own business. The BSc Environmental Health Apprenticeship degree* is professional programme that will prepare the apprentice for a career as an Environmental Health Practitioner in the public or private UK sector. They will gain the knowledge and skills to assess and apply effective solutions to improve environmental and public health in a variety of settings.

This programme has been designed to provide education to those wishing to enter the environmental health profession which upholds healthy environments and protects public health. Through their studies on-campus and experience in the workplace, the apprentice will explore the relationship between professional, domestic and leisure environments and how they impact on the health and well-being of individuals and societies. They will cover a range of topics and subject matter including public health, food safety, environmental protection, private sector housing improvement and occupational health and safety.

The apprentice will benefit from specialist teaching and learning spaces for environmental health, including a food inspection laboratory, an environmental and occupational health laboratory, a Grade 2 microbiology laboratory, a biology laboratory and chemistry laboratories. Our lecturers are environmental health practitioners with experience in key areas such as food safety, health and safety, and private sector housing.

Upon graduation, they will be prepared to enter careers in both the public and private sectors and will be confident in evaluating the legal and social framework within which environmental health operates. As this course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the apprentice will be encouraged to also complete the CIEH Chartered Practitioner Programme and become a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner.

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. This means that during your time studying you’ll gain an understanding of the criminal justice system and the different career paths you might want to pursue after graduation. BA Digital Media and Communications

Combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, you gain skills in areas such as new media, video production, website design, culture and more. Practice-based work includes video production (following Government safety guidelines), web design and HTML programming, data visualisation and smart environments. Great emphasis is also given to the management and analysis of social media platforms, with APIs and other sources used to present and assess social data.

Our BSc Cyber Security and Digital Forensics will develop your theoretical knowledge while you gain the skills, practical experience and certifications to excel in areas that range from compliance management to cyber forensics and everywhere in between. Once you’ve finished your course, you’ll be able to apply to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse with full accreditation from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
