Overview

Our multi-disciplinary biomedical engineering course mixes engineering with biomedical science and physiology. This provides you with a solid understanding of the technological developments taking place in the fields of medical engineering and bioengineering.

You will build on your previous experience in applied mathematics, physics, or other sciences. During your course you will enhance your engineering knowledge and gain specialist skills which will help you to design and improve existing and emergent systems, devices and treatments.

Our degree has been specifically designed to meet the standards set by the collaboration between the UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Engineering Council alongside the demands of healthcare providers.   • We have fully equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories for medical device design and human performance measurement. You will also have access to the facilities in ourbioengineering and physics research laboratories. It is here that we’re making significant healthcare developments, which include the monitoring of premature babies, deep brain stimulation and the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
  • You can gain valuable professional experience – and receive a Diploma of Employability Studies – by taking a work placement with the NHS or one of our industrial partners between years two and three.

The MA Classical Music Business is ideal for any graduates with a specific interest in classical music, or for those with a classical music performance, musicology or composition degree. It is also highly suitable for anybody already in employment, who wants to further progress their career in the classical music industry.

The MA Classical Music Business at Middlesex is unique. In addition to its distinct content and specialised teaching, this programme gives you the opportunity take up placements with classical music organisations such as music publishing house Peters Edition, the National Opera Studio, the record label and promoter NonClassical, period instrument orchestra Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the English Chamber Orchestra. Work placements can also be carried out elsewhere in the UK, Europe, and other parts of the world.

As Middlesex University is based in London, the centre of classical music activity in the UK, we are perfectly placed to attract high calibre speakers as well as introduce you to a wide range of concerts and cultural activities at internationally renowned classical music institutions such as the Wigmore Hall, Southbank Centre and the Barbican.  You will examine contemporary issues and practices within the classical music industry and obtain a high level of understanding of how organisations are funded through commercial, public, and philanthropic income. Our information systems degree gives you the skills, experience and expertise you need to succeed in the computer-based sector – and beyond.

You’ll get to grips with the specialist equipment, systems and technologies that will give you the experience, expertise and confidence to apply your skills (due to Covid-19, access to the specialist software may be online rather than in on-campus labs). Our degree will prepare you for career paths that range from organisational management and systems architects to chief information officers and enterprise architects.

This is an interdisciplinary course meaning the content's structured in ways that map explicitly to modern technology, including systems design, application development, client-side programming, and much more.

  • You’ll have the opportunity to take a year-long, paid work experience placement as part of a four-year study path (subject to securing an organisation that is able to support such a placement during the COVID-19 pandemic). In the past, our students have taken part in Sky's hackathon which tested their knowledge and team-working skills.

The MA Youth Justice, Community Safety and Applied Criminology degree is designed for people working or seeking to work in the area of crime and criminal justice. It offers a detailed understanding of contemporary issues facing professionals and managers in the criminal justice system and of the changing roles and responsibilities of the agencies and practitioners which make up that system.

Delivered by leading researchers and drawing on the expertise of those currently working in the field, this degree provides both traditional academic provision in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials and the opportunity to undertake up to a third of the course via work-based learning (for those already working in appropriate contexts) or an internship with an agency such as a Youth Offending Team, a Drug and Alcohol Support Service or a Community Safety Partnership.

  • The core elements of the programme are delivered on one evening per week so as to allow for those in work to attend. The remainder of the programme is made up by either studying optional modules available during the daytime or (in the case of one module) via distance learning or by a combination of a long or short dissertation and/or the long or short work-based learning or internship modules.
  • This flexibility, both in the choice of content as well as in the mode of delivery/learning, allows students to tailor the course as much as possible to their own needs. This includes the option to study the programme over one year full-time or two years part-time.

If you want to learn how businesses work and how to manage people, then this is the degree for you. You’ll learn about the theory and practice of how businesses operate and what their environments are like. You’ll also study a variety of management styles, alongside the law and practices related to managing people.

You’ll be supported by a team of tutors who have industry experience. You will be exposed to key HR practices such as hiring practices, HR law, the ethics of employment and other abilities you'll need during your career.

You’ll undertake a work placement so you can apply your skills to a live work setting. Using our industry connections, we'll help you find a role in the HR team of a top company, in an industry relevant to your interests. You can do this over the course of a year or over two summers. Past students have done placements with the NHS, The Walt Disney Company, and Hays Recruitment.
