The Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (Hons) at NCH offers three separate pathways to the degree. The Philosophy pathway enables you to study Philosophy as your major subject, comprising 50% of your undergraduate degree, alongside Politics and Economics as joint minors, each of which will form 25% of your degree studies.

The central aim of our Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (Hons) programme is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

Study political theory and political science examining governance, institution-building and decision-making while gaining thematic basis to academic legal studies which align to career paths for which knowledge and understanding of corporate, commercial and employment matters are valuable.

The study of Politics comprises political theory looking at normative questions, and political science looking at the organisation of government. International Relations examines governance, institution-building and decision-making through an analysis of historical phenomena, economic conditions, diplomatic relations, security and socio-cultural linkages among state and non-state sectors.
The Law minor aims to provide a thematic basis to academic legal studies which align to career paths that are attractive to alumni of the College, in particular, careers in which knowledge and understanding of corporate, commercial and employment matters are valuable; provide legal knowledge and skills.

Our Economics with Politics & International Relations BSc (Hons) is designed to teach you how to think critically about how the world operates, with a particular focus on governments and political institutions within them. An advanced understanding of economics will give you key insights into political decision-making and policy. Through your major, you will develop quantitative skills to understand and evaluate economic events and decisions in the real world. This will be complemented by your study of political theory, the organisation of government, and international relations for your minor.

Analyse the actions of states with clarity and rigour and develop the skills to engage with central philosophical questions, arguments, theories and texts.

The Politics & International Relations with Philosophy BSc (Hons) will equip you to analyse the actions of states with clarity and rigour. You’ll compare the political institutions of different countries, examining from where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other organisations. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these institutions work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. Through your Philosophy minor, you will develop the skills to engage with central philosophical questions, arguments, theories and texts.

Develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world while looking closely at works of art, architecture and design, in order to understand their aesthetic, cultural, and economic contexts.

Through your Economics major, you will learn to develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world. Your Art History minor will complement your major by training you to look closely at works of art, architecture and design, and to understand their aesthetic, cultural, and economic contexts.

Engage with the central questions, arguments theories and texts concerning the world and our place within it, developing rigour and clarity in your thinking and writing, alongside fellow students of the Philosophy major. Learn about the logic behind language and meaning, while studying topics such as ethics, metaphysics and aesthetics. Complement these studies by exploring the biological, cognitive, and psychosocial areas of contemporary scientific psychology.

The Philosophy with Psychology BA (Hons) combines the study of Philosophy and Psychology.
Engage with the central questions, arguments theories and texts concerning the world and our place within it, developing rigour and clarity in your thinking and writing, alongside fellow students of the Philosophy major. Learn about the logic behind language and meaning, while studying topics such as ethics, metaphysics and aesthetics. Complement these studies with the Psychology minor to consider the philosophical and ethical issues relating to individual differences in social behaviours, attitudes and feelings, while exploring the biological, cognitive, and psychosocial areas of contemporary scientific psychology.

This undergraduate degree equips you with a combination of communications, critical thinking and individual and social behaviour expertise highly prized in the evolving employment market.

The Law with Politics & International Relations LLB (Hons) is a Qualifying Law Degree, covering all of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board required areas of study to permit progression onto the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister.

The Law with Politics & International Relations LLB (Hons) will allow you to prepare for your career and follow your passions. In your degree, you will take all of the courses required for a Qualifying Law Degree, preparing you to take the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister. Your Politics minor will enable you further to understand and analyse the relationship between the individual and the state, and the sources of state authority and forms of government.

Develop wide-ranging analytical skills and apply them to government policies, literary and nonfiction texts. Compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing where they derive legitimacy and how they interact with other institutions. Gain the relevant conceptual tools, expertise and knowledge to enhance your enjoyment of literature for the rest of your life.

Your Politics & International Relations with English BSc (Hons) will allow you to develop wide-ranging skills of analysis, which you will apply to government policies and literary and nonfiction texts. You’ll compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other institutions. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these organisations work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. Through your English minor, you’ll expand your critical reading skills, giving you the relevant conceptual tools, expertise and knowledge to enhance your enjoyment of literature for the rest of your life.

The Combined Honours Law LLB is a Qualifying Law Degree, covering all of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board required areas of study to permit progression onto the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister.

Your Law with English LLB (Hons) will allow you to prepare for your career and follow your passions. In your degree, you will take all of the courses required for a Qualifying Law Degree, preparing you to take the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister. You will also study three courses in English, allowing you to develop complementary skills of analysis – of legal and fictional texts – and essay writing.

The Law with Data Science LLB (Hons) is a Qualifying Law Degree, covering all of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board required areas of study to permit progression onto the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister.
