With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, you can choose one of Philosophy, Politics or History as your major, and will study the other two as joint minors. The central aim of our PPH programme is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and History, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, history will be your major and you will study the other two as joint minors. In each year, you’ll study two courses in your major subject, and one course in each of the remaining two minor subjects.

Our Economics with English BSc (Hons) will help you develop wide-ranging analytical skills and apply them to a range of objects. Through your Economics major, you will develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world. Through studying works of literature and their cultural and economic contexts for your English courses, you will develop excellent communication skills highly valued by employers.

The Combined Honours Law LLB is a Qualifying Law Degree, covering all of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board required areas of study to permit progression onto the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister.

Your Law with English LLB (Hons) will allow you to prepare for your career and follow your passions. In your degree, you will take all of the courses required for a Qualifying Law Degree, preparing you to take the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister. You will also study three courses in English, allowing you to develop complementary skills of analysis – of legal and fictional texts – and essay writing.

In your History with Economics BA (Hons), you will learn about the structures which affect real-life decisions and events around the world, as well as gaining a rigorous knowledge of the historical context leading to those events. You’ll also develop the quantitative skills needed to interpret contemporary economics as practised, alongside the ability to analyse the theory behind both economic and historical study of the world. 

Develop your historical knowledge and your ability to communicate it effectively by exploring a broad range of historical periods from the Roman Empire through to present-day America in depth, while learning to effectively use databases, systems and analytical tools to generate insights and intelligence.

Studying the History with Data Science BA (Hons), you will develop both your historical knowledge and your ability to communicate it effectively. You will explore a broad range of historical periods from the Roman Empire through to present-day America in depth, and take courses examining the historical discipline itself, and its practice and applications. You will also learn to effectively use databases, systems and analytical tools to generate insights and intelligence.

The Philosophy & Cognitive Science BA (Hons) combines a major in Philosophy with dual minors in Data Science and Psychology.

Your major studies in Philosophy will investigate topics including ethics, logic, metaphysics, philosophy of the mind, and the philosophy of science. The Data Science minor explores the techniques underpinning artificial intelligence including coding in Python, machine learning, and natural language processing, as well as theoretical and practical issues surrounding AI and data ethics. The Psychology minor surveys fundamental principles, concepts, experiments, and issues in the major areas of contemporary scientific psychology. Together, these elements provide a very broad and deep foundation in the study of naturally and artificially intelligent systems, and teach the skills required for life and work in the 21st century.

Upon completion of the Philosophy & Cognitive Science BA (Hons), students will have acquired breadth and depth of knowledge of both human and machine intelligence and the behaviour it gives rise to, and have developed a wide range of highly desirable transferable skills.

The single honours Law LLB allows you to go into extra depth in the study of law. In addition to the courses required for the Qualifying Law Degree, you will study Employment Law, and Legal Research and Advocacy, Commercial and Company Law. Through these courses, you will, amongst other things, learn how legal cases are constructed and presented in court, as well as discovering discrimination law and workers’ rights.
