The central aim of our PPH program is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and History, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects. With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, history will be your major and you will study the other two as joint minors. In each year, you’ll study two courses in your major subject, and one course in each of the remaining two minor subjects.

Advance your powers of engagement with both literary texts and the issues and contexts with which they engage, while analyse the relationship between the individual and the state, and the sources of state authority and forms of government.

The English programme at NCH is intended to bring rigour to a student’s thinking, and advance students’ powers of engagement with both literary texts and the issues with which they engage. The central aim of the Politics and International Relations minor is to analyse the relationship between the individual and the state, and the sources of state authority and forms of government, by understanding resource distribution and value allocation.

The Law with Philosophy LLB (Hons) is a Qualifying Law Degree, covering all of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board required areas of study to permit progression onto the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister.

The Law with Philosophy LLB (Hons) will allow you to prepare for your career and follow your passions. In your degree, you will take all of the courses required for a Qualifying Law Degree, preparing you to take the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister. Your Philosophy minor will complement your study of Law, bringing clarity and rigour to your thinking while you develop your understanding of and ability to engage with central philosophical questions, arguments theories and texts.

Explore world culture without geographical or temporal limits, from Europe to China and antiquity to the modern-day while developing an understanding of the social and cultural behaviours which underlie the development of art over time across the world. This innovative degree will develop your critical thinking and analytical skills, both in response to visual culture and human behaviours, giving you an edge in an ever-changing employment market.

The Psychology minor explores fundamental principles, concepts, and issues in the major areas of contemporary scientific psychology, which informs your study of Art History by allowing you to dive into the social and cultural behaviours which underlie the development of art over time across the world.

Your Politics & International Relations with English BSc (Hons) will allow you to develop wide-ranging skills of analysis, which you will apply to government policies and literary and nonfiction texts. You’ll compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other institutions. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these organisations work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. Through your English minor, you’ll expand your critical reading skills, giving you the relevant conceptual tools, expertise and knowledge to enhance your enjoyment of literature for the rest of your life.

The MSc Responsible Artificial Intelligence is a well-integrated programme of study with a targeted focus on both in theory and in application. Presupposing no background in computing, students are equipped with relevant knowledge and data programming skills, covering not only recent technical developments, but also broader ethical and theoretical considerations.

The option to study philosophical issues of AI whilst pursuing a Masters level computing degree is a unique offering in the UK, allowing students the opportunity to delve on the technical as well as the societal impact of data processing and, in particular, machine learning applications.

The programme allows students to progressively develop their understanding of the techniques of data science, machine learning, and natural language processing, alongside key concepts and methods of computer science, while honing their programming skills in Python and Java; and, at the same time, refine their thinking and communication skills, through humanities courses devoted to a consideration of key practical and theoretical issues, arising in connection with AI.

The Law with Creative Writing LLB (Hons) will allow you to prepare for your career and follow your passions. In your degree, you will take all of the courses required for a Qualifying Law Degree, preparing you to take the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister. For your Creative Writing minor, you will develop your writing in a variety of forms from poetry, scriptwriting, short stories to creative nonfiction, enabling you to communicate your legal arguments with clarity.

Develop advanced analytical skills highly valued by employers by studying of historical discipline, its applications and practices. Through your Law minor, you will develop an understanding of the legal system and how it has changed over time, enhancing your skills of reasoning and argument.

The History with Law BA (Hons) allows you to develop advanced analytical skills highly valued by employers. You will study six historical periods, from Roman Empire Britain through to modern America, as well as broader survey courses and the study of the historical discipline itself, and its applications and practices. Through your Law minor, you will develop an understanding of the legal system and how it has changed over time, and enhance your skills of reasoning and argument.

Study the economic and political forces that impact our lives, while also learning to develop your writing skills – allowing you to communicate your economic knowledge effectively. You will have the chance to develop your analytical skills and to apply them to a huge variety of subjects, from analysing poetry, scripts, fiction and nonfiction, to analysing quantitative data and human behaviours.

The Economics with Creative Writing degree aims to prepare students to be educated observers of economic and socio-political processes. The combination of technical and analytical Economics training together with the study of Creative Writing gives students the ability to produce sophisticated economic thoughts and communicate them effectively and appropriately for different audiences.
