The English with Philosophy BA (Hons) will allow you to develop the skills needed to analyse texts and arguments clearly, and with nuance and precision. In addition to taking period papers focusing on literature from 1550 to the present day, you’ll study rhetoric and stylistics. You will also study classic philosophical texts from antiquity to the present day, which investigate the nature of the world and how we ought to interact with it.

This MA Philosophy is an excellent preparation for a PhD and a career in academia. It also develops critical reasoning, logic, and systematic approaches to problem solving, alongside an ability to analyse an issue from a broader perspective, all of which are highly valued by employers in a variety of fields. Our Economics with History BSc (Hons) teaches you about the structures which affect real-life decisions and events around the world, as well as gaining a rigorous knowledge of the historical contexts leading to those events. You’ll develop the quantitative skills needed to interpret contemporary economics as practised, alongside the ability to analyse the theory behind both economic and historical study of the world.

The Art History with History BA will allow you to interpret moments of history as manifested in works of art. Both your major and your minor include surveys of historical periods and their cultures, which are then supplemented by media specific and period specific courses in Art History and History respectively. You’ll learn about painting, ceramics, architecture, and landscapes, alongside broader reflections on the nature of the historical discipline and its applications.

With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, you can choose one of Philosophy, Politics or History as your major, and will study the other two as joint minors. Studying the History with Data Science BA (Hons), you will develop both your historical knowledge and your ability to communicate it effectively. You will explore a broad range of historical periods from the Roman Empire through to present-day America in depth, and take courses examining the historical discipline itself, and its practice and applications. You will also learn to effectively use databases, systems and analytical tools to generate insights and intelligence.

Your English with Creative Writing BA (Hons) will enable you to develop your skills in analysing and creating literature. You’ll take courses in literature from 1550 to the present, learning how writers have responded to their contexts, cultures, and the literature of their contemporaries. You’ll gain the tools and confidence to develop your creative responses to your cultural situation, and will find yourself approaching a diverse range of literary forms from both a critical and creative perspective.
