The Politics & International Relations with Art History BSc (Hons) will provide you with knowledge of the kinds of institutions people live under, and how artists and culture have responded to those institutions. You’ll compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing from where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other organisations. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these institutions work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. At the same time, you’ll take a survey course that will provide a broad overview of the history of European art, as well as studying more media-specific courses focusing on paintings, architecture, and so on. 

Study political theory and political science examining governance, institution-building and decision-making while gaining thematic basis to academic legal studies which align to career paths for which knowledge and understanding of corporate, commercial and employment matters are valuable.

The study of Politics comprises political theory looking at normative questions, and political science looking at the organisation of government. International Relations examines governance, institution-building and decision-making through an analysis of historical phenomena, economic conditions, diplomatic relations, security and socio-cultural linkages among state and non-state sectors.
The Law minor aims to provide a thematic basis to academic legal studies which align to career paths that are attractive to alumni of the College, in particular, careers in which knowledge and understanding of corporate, commercial and employment matters are valuable; provide legal knowledge and skills.

The Philosophy with Creative Writing BA (Hons) will teach you to write and analyse texts and arguments with clarity, rigour, and originality. The Philosophy major will give you the ability to engage with central questions, arguments, theories and texts concerning the world and our place within it. You’ll learn about the logic behind language and meaning, alongside studying topics such as ethics, metaphysics and aesthetics. The Creative Writing minor will enable you to express your philosophical judgements in a variety of forms, from short fiction to poetry to scriptwriting, as has been established practice in the history of philosophy.

The Philosophy with Art History BA will help you bring a clarity and rigour to your thinking about topics such as morality, metaphysics, and art. Particularly of interest for you will be the third year philosophy course in Aesthetics – studying the philosophy of beauty and the philosophy of art, ranging from Plato’s claim that we should rid ourselves of all poets to Hegel and Arthur Danto’s assertion that art has ended. You will also, in your minor, study particular artistic media, such as painting, ceramics and architecture.

The History with Law BA (Hons) allows you to develop advanced analytical skills highly valued by employers. You will study six historical periods, from Roman Empire Britain through to modern America, as well as broader survey courses and the study of the historical discipline itself, and its applications and practices. Through your Law minor, you will develop an understanding of the legal system and how it has changed over time, and enhance your skills of reasoning and argument.

Our Economics with Law BSc (Hons) will provide you with a full understanding of the forces shaping the way we live. Studying Economics, you’ll engage with the structures that make for wealth and well-being, as well as learning the quantitative skills needed to engage with academic economics as commonly practised. In your Law studies, you will learn about the legal forces which constrain how individuals act, and which thus have an impact on the wider societal structures that you will study in Economics.

The single honours Law LLB allows you to go into extra depth in the study of law. The MSc Responsible Artificial Intelligence is a well-integrated programme of study with a targeted focus on both in theory and in application. Presupposing no background in computing, students are equipped with relevant knowledge and data programming skills, covering not only recent technical developments, but also broader ethical and theoretical considerations.

The option to study philosophical issues of AI whilst pursuing a Masters level computing degree is a unique offering in the UK, allowing students the opportunity to delve on the technical as well as the societal impact of data processing and, in particular, machine learning applications.

The programme allows students to progressively develop their understanding of the techniques of data science, machine learning, and natural language processing, alongside key concepts and methods of computer science, while honing their programming skills in Python and Java; and, at the same time, refine their thinking and communication skills, through humanities courses devoted to a consideration of key practical and theoretical issues, arising in connection with AI.
