The central aim of our PPH program is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and History, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects. With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, history will be your major and you will study the other two as joint minors. In each year, you’ll study two courses in your major subject, and one course in each of the remaining two minor subjects.

Compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other organisations and learn how to draw on complex and often contradictory sources to create a picture of lives once lived, from the Roman Empire to the present.

The Politics & International Relations with History BSc (Hons) will provide a full understanding of how states work and have developed over time. You’ll compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other organisations. You’ll take a course in political theory and learn how to draw on complex and often contradictory sources to create a picture of lives once lived, from the Roman Empire to the present.

Develop the skills to analyse texts and arguments clearly, and with nuance and precision while studying classic texts from antiquity to the present day, which investigate the nature of the world and how we ought to interact with it.

The English with Philosophy BA (Hons) will allow you to develop the skills needed to analyse texts and arguments clearly, and with nuance and precision. In addition to taking period papers focusing on literature from 1550 to the present day, you’ll study rhetoric and stylistics. You will also study classic philosophical texts from antiquity to the present day, which investigate the nature of the world and how we ought to interact with it.

Study political theory and political science, while examining governance, institution-building, decision-making and socio-cultural linkages among state and non-state sectors, while learning to communicate your knowledge creatively and accurately to a wide range of audiences, in a diverse variety of forms.

Politics & International Relations with Data Science BSc (Hons) will not only equip you with knowledge of political institutions and their interactions but also with the ability to communicate that knowledge creatively and accurately to a wide range of audiences, in a diverse variety of forms. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these organizations work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. In your Data Science minor, you will be able to effectively use databases, systems and analytical tools to generate insights and intelligence.

The Law with History LLB (Hons) is a Qualifying Law Degree, covering all of the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority and Bar Standards Board required areas of study to permit progression onto the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister.

Your Law with History LLB (Hons) will allow you to prepare for your career and follow your passions. In your degree, you will take all of the courses required for a Qualifying Law Degree, preparing you to take the professional training courses for qualification as a solicitor or barrister. Your History minor will further develop your skills of evaluating evidence. In acquiring knowledge of the past, you will reflect critically on the complex and often contradictory information about history that is available to us now.

You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these organizations work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. In your Creative Writing minor, you will hone your craft by writing poetry, scripts, creative non-fiction, and immersive journalism, amongst other forms. 

This degree programme enables you to study Art History and Philosophy for your combined honours degree. The study of Art History gives you the opportunity to see and interpret moments in history through their architecture and material culture. The central aim of the Philosophy minor is to bring clarity and rigour to your thinking and to advance your understanding of, and ability to engage with, fundamental philosophical questions, arguments, theories and texts.

Bring a clarity and rigour to your thinking about topics such as morality, metaphysics, and art and develop key critical thinking and communications skills sought by graduate employers worldwide.

The Philosophy with Art History BA will help you bring a clarity and rigour to your thinking about topics such as morality, metaphysics, and art. Particularly of interest for you will be the third year philosophy course in Aesthetics – studying the philosophy of beauty and the philosophy of art, ranging from Plato’s claim that we should rid ourselves of all poets to Hegel and Arthur Danto’s assertion that art has ended. You will also, in your minor, study particular artistic media, such as painting, ceramics and architecture.

Develop wide-ranging analytical and quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world, combined with excellent communication skills highly valued by employers.

Our Economics with English BSc (Hons) will help you develop wide-ranging analytical skills and apply them to a range of objects. Through your Economics major, you will develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world. Through studying works of literature and their cultural and economic contexts for your English courses, you will develop excellent communication skills highly valued by employers.

The central aim of the History major is to enable students to acquire knowledge and understanding of the human past and how people have organised their lives materially and conceptually as individuals and societies, and to reflect critically on the complex and contradictory information available to us now about the past. The English minor gives students the relevant conceptual tools, skills, and knowledge to read literature with greater understanding and enjoyment for the rest of their lives.
